Any way to view rear camera while driving?
I have a 2017 Lariat with the usual stock backup camera. The camera works great when in reverse but I would like to occasionally be able to view the camera display while driving down the road. This is especially helpful to check out the load/hitch on a trailer while towing or to check if the tailgate is open. I installed an aftermarket stereo/backup camera in my 2008 F150 which had the ability to switch the camera on while driving down the road. I hope maybe a Forscan change might do it but I couldn't find anything on the thread.

I have a seperate camera/monitor unit with dual input which I have suctioned to the windshield and tapped into the electric. I have two license plate cameras. One on the truck and one on the trailer (18' enclosed trailer) that I can switch between. This leaves the 8" in dash screen alone allowing me to use Waze (maps) tune the radio ect. If you're interested in this approach, I'll take pics for you.

While towing? Like he SAID? Really?? Wow, I hope you don't tow if you're not worried about your trailer...
He's talking about while towing... Read the post!
There are some highmount cameras that have been discussed here and in the Towing thread that let you keep an eye on loads. Better for hauling things in the bed where the rear window view is obstructed but it might also work for you in this case.
I made my own in my Xterra mounted to the top of the rear window pointing down at the bumper. I just got a cheap license plate camera, took it apart, and put the camera just inside the window.
Like so :
It was great for towing and being able to turn sharp while keeping an eye on the trailer frame and bumper distance. Also handy for when I lived in Germany (Yes I took it with me) because parallel parking was fun with all the tiny cars there. I couldn't see them behind me from either my mirrors or the back window. This made it easy... I had the screen for it mounted to the ceiling next to my rearview mirror.

I came across this video recently. He is in a Ford Fusion (not an F-150) but there might still be some carry over in the programming. Based on this video, if you are driving forward (I assume above a certain speed) and put it in reverse then your reverse camera will turn on and the transmission will not destroy itself.
So....who wants to be the first to test this in our trucks

if your trailor mount is compromised while towing you’ll know it before you see it on backup camera. If you aren’t smart or comfortable enough to know how to properly secure your trailor you probably shouldn’t be driving. There should not be any reason to have to look at your hitch or tailgate when towing. Don’t be an ******* and put other drivers in danger trying to look at your hitch. And if rhe OP does decide to get one, please advise all members on the forum where you live and caution to stay away
