Any solutions for uncomfortable headrest?
#21
When I 1st test drove the truck, my very 1st comment to the salesman was how uncomfortable the headrest was. He said it was adjustable but then proved unable to do it. It wasn't until quite a bit of fiddling that I discovered the trick. Even the salesmen don't know??? So I can forgive the OP possibly not knowing. I am 6'4" and I find the rest comfortable now in the full back position. I like the seat back reclined more then most tho.

Can you post pictures of your head from the side? Maybe it's shaped different. 😀
I'm 6 3 and if my head was hitting the head test while driving I would barely be able to see the road.
The engineering is fine. The head rest works perfectly for nearly everyone I suspect. Adjust your seat. There are infinite positions

I took mine apart and sectioned 1" out of the bend in the frame effectively moving the headrest 1" back. It's perfect now. I'm 6'7" and my wife is 5'4"...we both hated it. An hour of cutting and welding and it's all good now. The front of the headrest is even with the front of the seat instead of sticking out past it.

I guess I have horrible posture. I just went out and played with the seat adjustment and the headrest. The only way I could get the head rest to be an issue when in the full back position was to bring the seat back up to 90 degrees which is very uncomfortable for me. I do think the headrest should have a bit more adjustment to the rear. When I ratcheted up just one notch it was uncomfortable. I tried turning the head rest around and can see how that would be more comfortable for some. To bad it doesn't have locking notches on both sides of the rods to facilitate turning it around, and still be able lock the height adjustment.

Have you seen the modification posted back in this thread? It doesn't look difficult to do. Looking at the before and after pics, it looks like it may solve your issue.

I'm 6'6". This is what the head rest looks like when it is fully extended. As you can see, it's in a very uncomfortable spot.
I took a metal file and made a pair of extra notches in the head rest, 1" below the last factory notch, thus allowing the headrest to extend 1" higher.
Still a little low, but with the seat reclined a tad, it is much more comfortable.

You must be all back! Im 6'4" (long legs) and the rest is even with the back of my head. All the way back, there is about 3 fingers clearance between the rest and my occiput. Only time it is a problem is when I tilt my head back to chug a beer!!

So what's the trick. Mine are way too far forward,
and it looks like they should adjust, but I can't get them to budge.
