Hi bigcitymike,
The new Escape will be the first Ford vehicle with SYNC Connect. The technology debuts in the spring: https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...echnology.html
Current SYNC 3 vehicles will not be able to upgrade to SYNC Connect; it uses a different modem. However, an update for Android Auto and CarPlay will be released later this year: https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...roid-auto.html

That's a real shame Ford is underserving their customers on technology that other MFG's are already rolling out.
If you bought a 2015 F150 you got FMT which was basically EOL in 2014.
If you bought a 2016 F150 you get the new infotainment system, but only part of it.
Allowing a retrofit to support in-car connectivity for MY2016 should have been factored in. I was just getting quotes this week to place a order. I'm really going to have to reconsider and very well wait for the MY2017 to become available, as I consider in-car connectivity a pretty important technology to be without.

Auto Stop/Start
For what it's worth, my 2015 Lariat can permanently disable the auto start/stop in the settings menu in addition to the temporary button on the dash. Personally, I like it on my 2.7 now that I'm used to it and it's a better execution than what BMW did on the 328 I traded in. -Trevor
