Was only planning to do it for the hose bibbs, but may just do the whole home as it should be a relatively easy install in our mechanical room.

Thanks for the recommendation on Kinetico. Looks like good stuff, so I'll definitely reach out to them!

I saw a YouTube video where the guy had this one, and he gave it a good review as well. If I go external instead of doing the whole house, this may well be the way I go.

I'm from Germany but life in the states for a few years now. Back in Germany it's not allowed to wash your car at home. We did it anyway but water is also more expensive over there. So we always used rain water, what we collected in a big tank. My dad put a mesh filter on that tank to get the big debris out and in was the best stuff you can use.

1. Soak the car with tab water
2. Clean with soap
3. Rinse off with tab water
4. Rinse the hole car with rain water
5. Let it dry or dry it with a leather

it will be spotless ether way
I hadn't really though about that until yesterday when I was in Costco, and saw a rain barrel and it got me wondering if I could make it work. I'd be interested to know if anybody is doing it.

Don't hook soft water up to all your hose bibs you will destroy your lawn and garden... also don't hook it up to your kitchen sink or you will destroy your innards.

If you want soft water dedicated for washing vehicles and not an entire home I recommend you get the smallest one you can, and hook it up to a new and conveniently placed hose-bib. Make sure it is clearly labelled for reasons stated above.

You are confusing soft water with distilled water. Soft water will not destroy your body's internal components.

My wife has watered the gardens and the yard with the soft water tap several times by accident and other than using all the soft water up the plants displayed no ill effects.

The polystyrene beads are large enough for me to see if they do somehow happen to make it out of their pressurized tank into my glass of water. I am not stupid enough to see a bead of plastic in my glass of water and drink it.
