This small drawer sits in the center below the lower power point. I see that it has a small opening on the top edge, such as for a cell phone charging cable or something. It has a square hole in the back, and a push-button release that says, "SYNC." I wonder what is its intended purpose? I had never noticed it before, and can't find anything in the manual or on-line.
I figure its just a phone storage pocket. The cut out allows the phone's charging/data cable to stick out and plug into your USB port right above the storage pocket or the 12v charging port.
Sorry if the sounds off key. Just gotta laugh some with you about serendipity and discoveries. When I get a new vehicle I'm all over it like flies on s--t. With manual in hand I will poke and prod every orifice like an overzealous doctor.
What you found is a micro glove-box for micro sunglasses and gloves! KM
Eureka! I figured it out. That hole is . . . a hole! But look at it's purpose.
I installed a low-profile cell phone holder sold by Course Motorsports. I routed the charging cable behind the dash and through that hole. It routes neatly through the small opening at the top of the drawer and into the USB port.
