Question Antenna

It seems like short antennas are all the rage; however I'd like an antenna that is the exact height of my hood (absent of any racks) with the sunroof closed. I would like to know if I have clearance in a parking garage as I inch under a pipe or support beam. The antenna is a perfect indicator, but the stock one provides too much of a gap so it's not as helpful as it could be. What length would the 2018's need? Do all non-raptors have the same hood-to-cab height?

Also, regarding short antennas (9" and shorter"), has anyone plasti-dipped them? Would it affect the signal at all?

I have a 27” one from Antenna Source and it sits just shy of the roof line of my truck

I cut my stock antennae to be 2 inches higher than my roof. You can pop the ball end off, cut with a hacksaw or cut off wheel, touch up any messed up paint and then epoxy the ball back on. Took me about 5 minutes.

I did the same, it works well and is a quick mod. Radio reception is very slightly worse (hardly noticeable, except in the warehouse at my office), but that is to be expected when you remove length from an antenna.

Why don't you guys that don't like your antenna just take it completely off unless you're going to get on the highway for some long distance driving? Most of you probably don't listen to FM radio anyhow.

This must be a generational thing.

I'm not so sure it's that. I have mine off until I can trim it due to it slapping my garage every time I pull in/out. That was before the level and 35's. The factory one on mine is actually already bent so I'll have to work it until it's straight again or buy another.

Ironically, I do just the opposite. In town, I like FM for our local radio personalities, music, news, and stuff.

When I travel, such as next week when running all over eastern OK....I'll be 100% Sirius so I don't have to hunt down stations.

In my 2015, I did cut 8 inches of my 32" stock antenna that make it to 24 inches long and flush to the roof.
No performance difference so far.

I was going to ask this exact question. I have 2018 on order. When I test drove one, it took it home to make sure it fit in the garage. The only issue was the antenna scraping the garage. I want to order a new antenna before the truck comes in. I listen to satellite or downloaded music 99% of the time, but I still want to have the option for terrestrial radio.

I got the AntennaX 5" Shorty from amazon. Reception took a dive, but it looks good.
