Default Another update on overall 2.7 eco reliability?

Hey all!

Got my first F150 about 7 months ago, and unfortunately I went with the 3.7 NA engine in my 2013. It's a great little powerplant, don't get me wrong, but what I've seen on the forums is true. You find yourself wanting more after a while. I feel like I'm in the throttle everywhere I go, and it's getting old.

Anyways... I made the mistake of driving my friend's 2015 3.5 Eco the other day, and MAN... I couldn't stop smiling, it was so nice to drive, and accelerated effortlessly. Getting back into mine I felt like I was driving a piece of junk. So I could afford an upgrade to the newer ones if I wanted (I drove a pre-aluminum 3.5 too, and it's not as nice as the 2015). I've always told myself if I got one of the newer models it would be the 2.7, as I rarely tow, and hear it's still a pretty peppy fun little engine.

I'm wondering about reliability as of now, since it's now been available for 2-1/2 years. I see on the forums that there seems to be an oil burning problem, and some are blowing smoke and getting their whole engines replaced, but I've learned to take problems on forums with a grain of salt. All you 2.7 owners, what's the latest as far as your current mileage and maintenence/problems? There's a REALLY nice 2.7 nearby with all the bells and whistles, and I'm tempted, but want to make the smartest choice so I can own this for years without too much trouble.

Yes I'm aware it's been asked before, but I can't find anything current, and pretty much all posts are users with very very low mileage. In almost 3 years there have to be some people who have racked up some decent mileage on these things... Sorry for using a forum for its purpose; if you don't care to see this topic then skip over it.

I've had my 2.7 for 2 years and 2 months, and have 68k on the clock. Zero issues here. I do lots of driving (obviously), through harsh winters, into the mountains, tow a 7500lb boat. Couldn't complain!

Awesome! That's the kind of feedback I'm looking for! There's lots of 2.7 problem threads, but the only people that post there are owners with problems (as opposed to a general overview of all owners)... So it's nice to see owners posting about not having any problems for a change.

Mine's a 2016, purchased mid-march last year. I just flipped 40k. Gone to Florida twice, NC twice, Baltimore and Maine. Also done a lot of idling on details. Change the oil every 5k, air filter twice and that's it. No issues at all.

As far as reliability goes, I have had the TSB for frozen locks completed and a brief software glitch on my Sync screen happen once. I'm getting 12.8-13.0 Litres/100 km, so I can't complain. My last tank got me 850 km. I found that at times, the truck can get wild if I speed over railroad tracks. No complaints otherwise.

2015. 41,000 km. No issues related to the engine.

back doors froze, chrome grille bubbled, chrome door handle inserts popped off. All minor and covered under warranty. I suspect it was some minor first run issues regarding the last two. One time, after a crazy rain, the engine fan would not shut off. Kileld the battery and had towed to Ford. By then it dried out and they said nothing needed to be done. Since then it has never happened again.

I too find that the overall build quality is lacking. At 17 000 km, my truck has developed quite a few rattles! All good, it's a pickup truck!
