Android Auto Update
I updated. I haven't played with it much but the interface seems a lot nicer.
FWIW, it was a headache to get the new interface. In Android Auto (on your phone, not connected to the truck), after the update, there should be a setting "Try the new Android Auto". That option wasn't present for me after the update. Seems a lot of others have the problem as well.
First of all, you need to update AA in the Google Play Store to 4.5.592854. Then I had to force stop the app, clear app data, restart my phone, and then go back into AA settings on my phone, and that new option would be at the top: "Try the new Android Auto". Enable that, and you're set.

My playlists from Google Play load automatically and play seamlessly. Calls and texts are handled with ease and AA functions as a full-fledged communications suite when combined with Sync3 and the 8 inch touchscreen. I have to say that I am impressed overall.
I think you would actually have to update Sync on your truck. There are other forum threads about how to do this, and I'm not sure if your head unit would be able to accept an update to Sync3. The Sync3 geeks would know that better on those threads.
Has anyone figured out what the new AA apps interface with? Specifically I'm interested in the Podcast app.
I figured that Google likely interfaced it with another of their apps, in this case Google Play Music. I added a few podcasts to Google Play Music as a test but the AA Podcast app does see them. My next test will be to try a different Podcast app like Stitcher.

I tried going back through, but are you running Sync 3 Or Sync 2, aka MFT?
@Martimus I use Podcast Addict which is my favorite podcast app, and it's recognized by AA.
You may also need to go into the AA settings and turn on a switch allowing the new version.
Then plug your phone into usb port in truck.
I am in Ontario and did not have the option in settings to turn on. Did all the steps mentioned in this thread. Drove to Michigan for a few days golf trip and when I stopped for gas I changed my Waze app to use mph instead of km/hr I decided to open AA on my phone to check and I had the option I was missing before.
Turned it on and man is it so much nicer. Looks so much better. Not sure if driving to the US had anything to do with it or not. But all good now that I have it.
