Android Auto
Just wanted to see if if there's a specific brand of USB cable that consistently works for Sync 3 to use Android Auto in an '18 XLT. I can only get AA to run for maybe 10 minutes max before it shuts off. Wife's iPhone/Apple CarPlay work without issue, and I can play music from a USB drive with no issues as well. I'm able to use the same phone and cable in other vehicles with no issue, so not sure where exactly the problem might be. Using the OEM cable isn't an option since it's USB-C to USB-C. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
You could get the OEM USB hub that has USB A / USB C ports? It is P/N LB5Z-19A387-B.

But try an Amazon basics or Monoprice USB A to USB C cable, much less expensive option.

I had similar issues with my 2019. Had to replace the USB ports in the console.
Went with the USB-A/USB-C combo. You'll have to trim the hole a bit. While the face is the same size, the body is a bit larger than the hole it sits in.

I was going to say does this happen with both ports. I have 2 usb A ports in mine but it's a 2017.
Then yes try a new cable - nearly any should do. I have had good luck with the monoprice ones if ordering off internets or ANKER ones if buying in a store.
Try the cable first - failing that maybe see if someone elses android phone works in your truck without issue. failing both of those - trade out the USB ports Though it would be odd for the apple bit to work fine in the same port if your android auto doesn't.
so that points to cable or phone issue - and yes your phones USB port might be messed up. try transfering data too and from your phone when you get your new cable.
OH and again try both ports in the cubby.
Good luck

FWIW, I fixed this by replacing the USB hub with this:
