A little more technical discussion there, with no clear answer.

I’m just gonna throw this out there.... if your engine fails before the warranty is up, it is obviously a manufacturing defect. You can probably run cooking oil in your engine and get several thousand miles before any damage is done. I understand not all oil is created equal, from regular Dino to the full blown, high end synthetics. Run whatever oil you want or prefer. If you worry about the warranty, then run whatever the book calls for.

I use Amsoil 15w50 Dominator oil in my race car without issues and have always used Castrol oils and Ford FL820S filters in my F150's starting with my 98 , and now i buy the Castrol Syntec 5w20
whenever it goes on sale for my 2010.
As far as Amsoil goes, just ask / register for a preferred customer account and you will get a significant rebate as well as free shipping to your door ... mind you, i go
through 24 liters in one season , but it works for me !

Just sayin ...

ok, lets change the subject a tiny bit. I am a fan of Amsoil and have used it in all my motorcycles and most of my cars, cars get Mobil1 or Amsoil, what ever I am in the mood for that day. My dealer insists on a Synth Blend for my F-150 ecoboost, I would much rather have full synth, is there a reason the dealer pushes a blend ? At the going rate of $50 for a oil/filter change, I will keep going to the dealer for a while, maybe not the entire time its under warranty but for a few years at least, but why a synth ? I assume the dealer gave me a line of BS and its just cheaper to them.

I haven't found anybody worthwhile claiming a blend is a better performer, in any way. Oil analysis say the full syn is better too. Just price, though you can buy top shelf full synthetic and a Motorcraft filter for like $30-35 total

Your manual recommends the Ford motorcraft blend, yes? Good reason for the dealer to recommend it, and I'm sure it's fine with proper oil change intervals (wouldn't go past 5k). I'm also sure the majority of the ecoboosts on the road are running it or similar since most people don't even know what oil is going in, if they even know what engine they have

Because that is what is in their 250 gallon drum that gets dispensed from the ceiling. Probably costs them $.25/quart and the techs can just pull down a hose and squeeze the handle.

I would NEVER use semi-synthetic if I'm purchasing my own oil. The cost just doesn't make sense compared to a quality full synthetic.

Haters will Hate

I love amsoil and use it in absolutely everything. My 09 with 140000 miles still puts like a kitten. So does my motorcycle, my quad, mowers and everything else. I also like their grease and most of their other fluids.

I agree with most of the answers above. Synthetic blend is...a blend between mineral and synthetic base stock. However, there is no rule about the minimum ratio of synthetic stock to call it a blend. So you guess: you can expect a very low volume of synthetic stock, because it is more expensive. In the opposite, the price tag is almost on par with full synthetic. So you got the picture.

The other incentive has been mentionned and is very interresting: bulk ! The dealer may insist with whatever they have in bulk because it costs them a much lower price in supply and management.

By the way, there is no dirtier oil than the one in bulk! Forget the filters in-line at the end of the dispenser: one pass worth for almost nothing (well maybe to catch 3/4 bolts).

Only bulk with multi pass filtration system has a acceptable cleanliness potential, very unlikely seen in car dealerships (more frequent in heavy industry)

This is untrue there is a minimum specification about how much synthetic has to be in a container to labeled as a blend. Unfortunately it is only 1 drop in a 5 gallon container so for all practical purposes it can be anything.
