Amsoil ATF for 10R80 Transmission?
Hi all,
Recently, due to very specific ATF viscosity specification suitable for 10R80 transmission (MERCON ULV or ultra low viscosity), many lube marketers didn’t have any suitable ATF to offer, including AMSOIL.
Yesterday, I noticed that Amsoil Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is now recommended when using the vehicle lookup tool.
What I dont’t get is that the product specs didn’t change and still mention MERCON LV ( not ULV).
I wrote to Amsoil tech services and will post their answer here.

Typical Scamsoil. They don't even list ULV as a "recommended for" product on the page, and you can be assured the product hasn't been tested and certified to meet Ford's requirements. At minimum, I wouldn't be using it during the warranty period...

Different manufacturer transmissions require ATF with different viscosities, and friction modifiers. Many articles have been written to avoid "generic" ATFs, especially Scamsoil!
Stay with Motorcraft ATF!

Using an oil not specifically approved would be a big mistake IMO, be it Amsoil or whatever. Transmissions are very 'touchy' with oils; they have to get the correct one to function properly. That's why I always use OEM powertrain parts and fluids, except engine oil and brake fluid, because there're better ones... but always use approved ones, especially during warranty (including the powertrain one).

Thanks all for sharing. My intention in starting this thread is solely to inform those interested in an Motorcraft ATF alternative, that Amsoil could now be one (to be confirmed).
I totally understand and respect those prefering to stick with manufacturer’s ATF for legitimate reasons.
I’ll post Amsoil response here to share the reasoning behind an MERCON LV apparently recommended for an MERCON ULV application.

I swear, tvsjr and takeda must get notified every time Amsoil is in the title of thread. It doesn't take long for both of them to show up with their tried and true scamsoil comment. Ain't you tired Miss Hilly?

Save the Manuals!
They aren't wrong.
Amsoil is the male version of Rodan & Fields, Luluroe or any other Ponzi type MLM scam.
