Being a pilot I suspect you totally get it!

I understand that the light output on the halogen headlights is less than ideal for many owners, but placing led bulbs into halogen housings is in my view irresponsible.
The projection of the led bulb inside the halogen housings washed everywhere and is extremely uncomfortable to oncoming traffic or those being followed.

My advice is to seek out a good quality after market bulb such as a PIAA or go for a full led retrofit headlight set designed for led lights.

I need to look into the halogen upgrade it seems. This is what happens when I get bored and go on the forums I find stuff I probably don't need. I even mentioned this to my wife and she said "But you HATE those idiots with the bright HID type setups!" I really, really do. Can't tell you how many times I am BLINDED by all sorts of vehicles, seems to be just straight hi beams and it pisses me off to no end. You know how many times I've flashed them? Not once... that's why I ask if people really think their LED's are fine, or if people just don't flash.

After installing these bulbs I went for a test drive in an area where there was a high probability of getting flashed. It's a small winding two lane road shrouded in trees. You have lots of homes ranging from high end lake front to old trailer homes. There's a few hills and a lot of deer crossing on this road. I started just before sundown and was prepared to exit to the highway and head home if I found that I was blinding other drivers. I intentionally did not use my high beams knowing other drivers would be using theirs. I passed many other drivers without ever changing my headlight setting. Not once did the other drivers flash me for not dimming my lights. I passed many small cars and at several times noticed my headlights dead on the driver face. They didn't hit the brakes or swerve or fly off the road or even burst into flames or anything. While that certainly isn't the best way to get answers it allowed me to me see that other drivers can still navigate towards me in pitch black darkness without much difficulty.

Perfect...thats exactly how all the major auto manufacturers do it too! So you must be okay!

I wanted LED headlights too so you know what I did???
I bought a lariat with 502a package!

LED bulbs have no place in a halogen light housing.
cool thanks for sharing lmao. Not all of us Want to drop that kind of coin on a lariat 502a package.
Ill do it my way and you do it yours.

I took my wife car down the street and had her come the opposite way in my truck. While the lights were bright they were in no way blinding me as I drove past.
Theh are no worse imo than passing a car that has projectors or factory led lighting.

I've passed my wife driving my 150 with Z ES LED's and it's not any different than oem HID's or LED's. Vehicles with projector lenses are more likely to create dazzle due to being near point source lights. They definitely appear brighter, but not annoyingly, just like any of the new cars with oem LED lighting.

Yes, LED's bulbs that use large LED's that do not mimic a halogen filament, will have artifacts, and will generate glare, but those are slowly disappearing, and generalizing all LED's bulbs as being inappropriate is not helpful in steering people towards good lighting options.

Hey I've been doing it my way my whole life...I'm not about to change now!

I'm also not so inconsiderate and irresponsible to jam LEDs into a Halogen housing and blind those in front of me...ya ya ya I know, no one flashed you and you checked and they all look good...I know! (eyeroll)

Oh but hey, thats just me, the way I do things.

The most modern LED's don't do this, they have single point emitters in the exact same geometry as halogen filaments.

We need a sticky or something that points people to the Lighting sub-forum. We then need a sticky in that sub-forum where people can argue the philosophies and physics of light sources. Maybe even a sticky that has all of the data that one of us "initiated" has accumulated on the topic. I have all the experience and pictures for such a thing. Be cool if I could put that towards good use for others, too. Might help me feel better about all of the time and money I have spent with this rabbit hole. I would even consider writing it up all proper-like if I knew it would get sticky'd.

We could even leave it unlocked and designate that thread as the place for arguments and flamewars to happen on the subject. Just let them all sort it out Escape from New York-style. Right below the posts that present evidence and links and such. Wouldn't that be fun?

The only sticky in that forum is for HID.

Not that any of you guys are arguing. I'm just saying that every one of these threads ends like this^^^^. Be cool if they didn't.
