Am I crazy to replace my 2016 F150 with a 2019 RAM?
Tell me I'm crazy!!
I had my 2016 in to get the waterpump replaced (under powertrain warranty) and my service guy asked if I had extended warranty, or if I planned to trade it in before 100,000km.
He said the trucks are pretty reliable, but any repair out of warranty is expensive on the Ecoboost.
That got me looking at the 2019 F150s. Very similar to my current 2016 and starting to feel a bit dated on the inside.
I then went online this weekend and started looking a the 2019 Rams. I'm not a Ram fan, but the new 2019 1500s look pretty good. That 12" touch screen is nice, plus all the other tech I could get, plus they are almost $20k off MSRP. The best I can get on an F150 is around $15k off. The interiors on the new Rams look nice, but I haven't sat in one yet. I also really like my Ecoboost and wonder how the Ram will handle my 8200lbs trailer. The 4-corner air suspension is nice to, to be able to level out the beast a bit when towing and how it lowers when entering/exiting the vehicle.
My major concern is reliability, but my service adviser isn't making me feel to confident in my 2016 (2.5 yrs old).
Thoughts?

Are you crazy? Maybe, but not for thinking about a Ram. Rams are good trucks. I'll not have one, but I also won't be paying your car note, so what I might or might not own shouldn't affect your decision. You hear a lot of horror stories here because lots of people open accounts just to complain, but the Fords are good trucks (note: not perfect trucks). The free market is a wonderful thing. The F150s wouldn't be the best selling trucks year after year after year if Ford wasn't doing something right. They're just too expensive for people to buy them for any reason other than their being quality trucks.
Spending a lot of money based on the gadgetry in a new truck isn't for me, but if it is for you, the Rams do appear to be ahead in that area.

You aren't crazy if you like the RAM. Buy what you like and think is a good purchase and don't let anyone else sway your judgement. You aren't likely to get a " buy the RAM" response on a F150 forum just as you would get the opposite on a RAM forum.

Why not buy an extended warranty on your Ford?

If the $20k off is a big buying factor i would talk to an actual sales person to verify if the $20k off is applicable to you. I know the rams typically offer more but that sounds like a lot on the 2019

Can't imagine Ram's eTorque is cheaper to fix than an EcoBoost. And see how you like using that giant touch screen when you're driving down the road.
Ram makes a nice truck. But that guy was probably just trying to sell you a warranty. And if it really worries you, that warranty is a lot cheaper than a new Ram...and keep in mind that Ram is a first year model.

This is likely worth watching. Here is a local guy that happens to have won the "Canadian Tech of the Year" award. His truck has the 3.5 Ecoboost and he loves it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P9PxmQb7q8 and https://www.autoserviceworld.com/cto...cgDFvIdxO5fbCA
Buy which ever you like. Both companies have their share of troubles.

I personally think anyone who trades their trucks in every few years is crazy, but thats just me. You want to know whats more expensive than fixing a truck? Depreciation and a truck note payment every month.
