Not sure it would have been wise to jump on this 10-speed at launch. I was pretty excited to order a 2017 bc of the tranny, but then I thought hard and decided that I rather have a proven product. There is going to be pros and cons to both transmissions. For my particular case I didnt need one or the other, so I decided to just go ahead and order the 6-speed. I have been driving a 4-speed for almost 10 years, and I would have continued with it, but I need more space for the kids.

This. I've had two first gens after major changes and had some issues. Not major but enough to push me away from first releases. And I really want a raptor so I'll wait until 2018 and trade.

As a former GM owner who knows how "weird" their 6 speed was when it first came out and how the 8 speed is now with all the complaints, no thank you. What turned me off from the new 10 speed is Ford partnering with GM to build this transmission. GM's 4 speed was dead nuts reliable but they forgot how to build a decent transmission here in the past several years.

This one was designed by Ford. GM designed the upcoming 9 speed FWD trans.

"The transmission has been in the works for years, since Ford and GM announced the joint project in 2013. The companies are jointly developing a 10-speed that will be used in trucks and other rear-wheel-drive vehicles, as well as a nine-speed that will be used mostly on front-wheel-drive vehicles." - http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...sion/83882916/

Looks like they are working on the transmission together.

This seems to have some good info in it and it agrees with what others have said in the thread about Ford designing it and GM designing the 9 speed and then sharing it.
