I had a 2008 2.5SL Altima with 217k on the clock with the original CVT. From what I've read, my experience was pretty rare. Car still drove pretty well, but it was just a matter of time before the CVT would drop. Sold it with full disclosure that I felt the CVT was on it's last gasp of life and would need replacing at some point in the near future.

No transmission shop would touch it. $4k to replace it with a Nissan CVT.

1st gear 2:1
2nd gear 1:1

Now we I switch on the tow haul mode, and it multiples my values by 2. So when I'm towing, my gears are essentially

1st gear 4:1
2nd gear 2:1
3rd gear 1:1

Ive broken it down to be extremely simple, but I feel like with modern technology it could be done.
