Air Dam Removal

Has anyone removed the air dam yet on their 15 F150 and if so did it have any negative effects on gas mileage, etc?

I found this Ford video on youtube that says you can remove it when going off road for extra ground clearance and it just mentions it is to help aerodynamics of the truck.

I'm waiting on my 15 F150 and I currently have a Tacoma. I got great ground clearance on my Tacoma and the 15 F150 doesn't appear to have as much and thought taking it off and just leaving it off may help? I never know exactly when I go off road and I think it would be a pain to have to continually remove it and then put it back on whenever I am on highway versus off roads.

I did some google searching but all I could find was older F150's where people removed it. Some claimed it made the engine compartment dirtier and some claimed it hurt MPG while others claimed it helped MPG.

Just thought I would see if any 15 owners took theirs off and what were the results?

By the way this forum has been a great help already while I patiently wait for my truck.

When they quote clearance, be it GM, ford, jeep, etc it is without he removable air dam in place. Even though the owners manuals (I can only speak for GM, its not in the Jeep's i've driven/owned) say that taking off the air dam will 'decrease engine cooling', its guaranteed to be bs.

BLUF: Removing the air dam won't do anything but potentially lower your mileage since it exposes more of the front suspension components...that's why vehicles with decent ground clearance have these horribly low front bumper covers/air dams (i'm looking at you GM, seen a new k2xx Tahoe/suburban?)

When I looked under a 2015, the dam appeared to be attached with a lot of clips & didn't look quick to remove/reinstall.

Appreciate the feedback guys. When my truck comes in I may just have the dealer take it off first thing. Don't want to expose any components either, is there a good front skid plate that won't interfere with FX4 skid plates?

May just leave it off without adding another skid plate but when I do go off road it is pretty hilly and rocky where I drive. I would hate to scrape against a rock if it leaves that area more unprotected with the air dam off.

How much worse can the mpg get? Really!

You'd better get a thicker skin than that if you're going to spend much time on forums such as this.

I left mine on because ostensibly it does improve mileage, but since I'm only getting 16.1mpg in two months and 2400 miles, I'm not sure it would matter, either.

Hey buck snort you might wanna check out dubsesd's thread " my 2015 lifted platinum" he removed his and I'm pretty sure it's a matter of removing screws and there is 2-2" studs that you have dremel off. Didn't sound to complicated so you can save a little $$

Awesome, thank you squirrelyyy I'll go check it out
