Default Air bags and ride

To all that have air bags, what is the ride like. I had them in my 13 FX4 Screw and it was fine (airlift 5000 ultimate, no air needed when unloaded). I have been reading some reviews on amazon for the 5000 ultimates and people are saying the ride is horrible.. I do not tow, however I haul pellet stove pellets 2 times a year (1 ton on a pallet dropped in the bed) and want to be able to do it without problem. Did it in my 13 with no issues with about 60lbs of air. What do you all with bags think of the ride unloaded.

Current truck - 18 Platinum Screw FX4 with bilstein 5100's all around, and 18x9 wheels with 34" tires.... I have a 2.25" halo lifts block ready to put on as well to get some rake back....

Well I dont know about bags, when empty, you would think there would be no transmissions between axle and frame. I do know that with Sumo springs with the spacer in so that the spring touches the axle, it does make for a not so smooth ride. I have removed them and the ride is smoother. Might not have any effect with empty bags though.

I got the air lift ride control air bags. With 2000 lb capacity. I cant say anything bad about them. With 5 psi you cannot tell they are on there. Then when I fill the bed of the truck with loaded coolers and supplies and hook up the boat I air them up to about 65psi. Works perfect. Wont have a 1/2 ton without them again.

AirLift 2000 here as well and I have the Bilstien 5100's as well. I run 10 psi in mine when not towing and can't tell they're on the truck. When I tow I air up to about 90psi to level out (don't need that much) and it is level and rides great.

I need to find out more about that option. I'm about to buy a Platinum (new), and the rear feels like crap. My buddies told me to just change the rear shocks for Bilsteins (need to find out the model), but the truck will still be lifted more at the back, and probably not improve much. Curious what that system does. Does it replace the leaf springs? Live axle with leaf springs is like 1950s technology. Can't believe Ford is still putting that crap on $65K trucks. Oh well. Thanks in advance for the info.

The Airlift does not replace springs, it's an addition. The Bilstein shocks are the 5100 series. They make a huge improvement.

Not so sure about the 18 trucks, but prior years the rear shocks were crap and gave the truck a jittery ride along with side hop of rough roads and railroad tracks. I had Bilstiens on mine, but for some odd reason they wore out in under 30K miles so I put on cheap KYB shocks in back and the ride is so much better. As for the rear springs, if it aint broke...dont fix it. Would you rather Ford used coil springs and reduce the payloads like Ram does?

Would you feel comfortable with 2k in the bed of truck with the bags??? how much do you think do you load up with???? I only run with the 2k in back 2 times a year and about 15 mile trip...

Had the 5000 ultimates on 13 FX4 and with about 65lbs it brought it back to level...
