Default Aftermarket Brake Controller? Does it still require Ford dealer to activate?

Hi,
Tried searching the forums and couldn't find this.

I realize that installing the OEM brake controller requires a visit to the dealer to activate.

Does an aftermarket also require a dealer to activate?

Here are some aftermarket controllers:

Thanks,
Jim

It doesn't if you wire it separately and don't use the vehicles harness. There only 4 wires. It is quite simple, but I don't expect many go that route. I have the Prodigy P3. It is an excellent controller.

For the price of the factory controller if your truck has the tow pkg you would be crazy not to go with OEM [internet price about 125 for my 2015 xlt] if your truck does not have tow package you are pretty much stuck with after mkt controller if you go OEM yes it must b.e activated by dealer. after mkt could go either way depending on truck and how it is equipt. my dealer charged $50 1/2 hour to activate took about 10 mins.
