Adding Smart Link question

This was brought up in the Ford Perimeter Plus thread, but thought to ask more specifically out in the open. I have a 16 XLT 302a package with factory remote start. I ordered the module that allows for shock sensors. I also was interested in getting smart link for the truck so I can get notifications if the alarm goes off as well as the other features. I am a little confused about what I need.

I was given this part number in the thread DL3Z-19A390-B. Finally got around to researching it and it appears to be a discontinued part but you can still buy it. Around $385

Then when googling Ford Smart Link, I came up with this part # - https://www.ebay.com/p/Genuine-OEM-F...-a/17017191775

Big price difference. Question is which one do I need and will this also work with the module I added for shock sensor as the smart link appears to plug into the ODB port as does this Part # FT4Z-19A361-A that is the shock sensor. Thanks.

There are two different options that you have, one with much more cost than the other.

Since you already have remote start on your 2016, you have two choices. First, you can add Ford Remote Access (you already ordered the VSS). Assuming you can find it, that costs $49.99 a year to give you Remote Start via cellular, as well as alerts.

The other option is much more expensive, which is Ford Smart Link, which is Ford's solution for vehicles that don't have Ford Sync Connect. You did NOT find the correct parts you need to add.

Not only are the parts more expensive, but you'll find that the annual cost is significantly more expensive.

Thanks Rick. Is this the remote start you're referring to?

You may be able to get parts, but finding a dealer to support/install this might be the issue. Remote Access was Discontinued. Rick answered my questions on this a couple of months ago. Spoke with 2 local dealers who said they no longer work with it because of the new Smart Link. Hopefully you have better luck than I did.

Yes, you already listed that, which is discontinued. Your challenge is to find it.

Also, both VSS and that were around $300 for me. That's the MSRP. It should be well under that.
