Adding pro trailer backup assist to 2016

What about learning to back a trailer up? It's really not that hard to do, esp if you have the 360 cameras. To me the Pro Trailer backup **** is more of a gimmick to me and really not that much of a feature. People have been backing up trailers for many many years without needing a **** to turn.
I've been reversing trailers since I learned to drive and I do it everyday at work and my wife can also reverse my boat no problem but she thinks it would be cool to have.
Like my OP said, I just want to know if it can be retrofitted otherwise I wouldn't have created this thread.
Thx

Khislop007 I'm with you I would love an answer on this as well.
Comments on learning to back up and would have should have are great but if someone has an answer to Khislop007's "actual question" it would be fantastic.
I did talk to my local dealer and they sell the "joystick module" (for lack of better term) for ~$35 US and the new dash Bezel that includes the hole and shroud for the joystick is ~$220 US. So for $250 it seems you can get all the "parts" to complete the PBUA the only thing I cannot get an answer from Ford on is if everything else is pre-wired with a harness waiting the joystick plugin.
In talking to the Service Manager the Lane Assist "module" is the same module needed for PBUA so his thought was that there are no other "parts" needed on the list of PBUA so my thinking is it would work and I was going to spend the $35 and get the joystick to give it a try.
Once I do if nobody else has answered your question I'll report back.

Awesome. Do keep us posted. I have Forscan so hopefully I can utilize that to program it, if not I'll just have to take it to my dealer.

if you can get the hardware in place, the rest should be configurable in forscan. There's no calibration process (like lane assist and Adaptive cruise) that you would need IDS/VCMII for, so forscan should give you enough access. From what I saw when looking in asbuilt hacker, no need to even calculate a hex for the vin.
I would guess you at least have to make some changes in the PSCM, since that's where the PTBA is going to send commands to. Possibly the IPMB also.
Best bet would be to post in the forscan thread and someone like linvitup can probably sniff out the right values in what modules for you.

I would think your 502A would at least have PTBA wiring incorporated into the dash harness. It's an option with the trailer packages and there aren't a lot of different main dash harnesses at the 502A level. Most of the ones I've found that are different are mainly to do with the 360 camera option or not.
I think for a 502A adding PTBA would be installing the PTBA hardware (dash control) and then module changes....but don't quote me on that.
If you want, you can send me your vin and i'll try and poke around to see what's different between yours and mine. I'm also max tow 502a, but I have PTBA.
I'll dig up the system diagram from the service manual tomorrow and post it here. Should give an idea of what modules probably need to be looked at for changes.
One a side note, my lane mirror should be here this week.....
