Adding Lane assist to a 502A
#61
Well, figured I'd just man up and do it and live with the consequences if the windshield or something got "F'd" up.
Grabbed it, turned and:
Let me tell ya, your first reaction when it releases is going to be a very loud "F#$%"!
It sounds like you ripped something off you didn't want to. I will say that you need to be very careful of the windshield heater contacts when the mirror lets go. It would be very easy to rip those right off the glass if you slipped and moved the mirror too much.
Stock F150 AHBC mirrorand my "hybrid" AHBC/LKA mirror side by side:
(f150 on the left, hybrid on the right)
Looks like it will just pop right on. I have to look at them both a little closer first though....

This is great to see - Congrats!!
LKA also has the effect of vibrating the wheel - and you are able to choose a magnitude of effect. Apologies if I missed it - did you change out your wheel to one that has this capability?

My understanding is the wheel is vibrated by the PSCM....there are some values I have to change in the PSCM, so those are likely it.
Edit:
From the FSM -
Lane Keeping Alert
The lane keeping alert generates vibration through the steering wheel when a lane departure is detected by the
IPMA. When commanded by the IPMA, the PSCM rapidly oscillates the power steering left to right, simulating
the vehicle driving on a rumble strip. The intensity of the steering wheel vibration can be adjusted using the
Driver Assist options in the message center. The system also provides a visual alert in the message center when
a lane departure is detected.

Mirror is mounted. Going back on was nowhere near as "sphincter clenching" as coming off.
Camera is pointing level now that it's been swapped to the f150 mirror mount.
Now a couple FORScan changes and see what I get. DTC's is what I'll be looking for first, it it comes on at all.
It's overcast and rainy today so I probably won't try and do the camera calibration. Assuming it goes as planned with FORScan and programming modules, I'll hit the highway first sunny day with IDS hooked up and try to calibrate the IPMA.
So close I can taste it!

Just finished FORScan changes thanks to Livinitup's help.
Only two changes. One in the IPC, the other in the PSCM. I'm not going to say which yet until I get it to work and Livin says he's ok with it getting out in to the wild.
IPC came up with The lane keeping option screens and the PSCM responds to the lane warning wheel vibration selections.
The IPMA doesn't throw any error codes either!
All that remains to be seen is if it will calibrate and work correctly.
I've got around 300-400 bucks into this and it looks like I might have added lane keeping. As a side bonus, it lays all the ground work for APA as well. It's just sensors and Forscan changes to get that up and running.
Adaptive cruise is going to come in right around 650 CAD.
So....I coudl be out the door for around 1200-1500 bucks for LKA/APA/ACC. That includes all the stuff I needed for programming and calibrating the systems.
Pretty much the whole tech package except the 360 cameras. I can live without that, since I've driven a couple with it recently and don't really like it.
I'm as giddy as a school girl!
