Default Added sync 3 version 2.3 but want version 3

I just updated my 2018 F 150 XLT from a 4" screen to an 8 " screen with sync 3 version 2.3 with navigation. I wanted to update from sync 3 version 2.3 to sync 3 version 3. Ford says because my truck didn't come with sync 3 I cannot update it. I am sure they go by vin # to see what the build of the truck is

I can't find anyplace where I can the sync 3 version 3 update.

Every Time I have asked Ford a question in the past 19 years they either don't know, can't help or even direct me to get help.

I have had 6 new Fords in 19 yrs years and I am pretty close to a Toyota in the future..

I'll answer your question first but I'd like your opinion on what you have now. To get Sync 3 v:3.3 you will need to replace the APIM, which is the audio module behind the screen. That holds the firmware you want. Look for an '18 APIM from a wreck that had the 8" screen to start. Lots of threads here if you search. Even a few folks that would be glad to provide one.
Now my question. How is that screen working out? I'm thinking of doing similar as I want the larger screen simply for the rear camera view. Bigger is better!. I'm fine with the 2.3 firmware I have as it does all I need and the bells and whistles sometimes become a distraction.

The screen works great// Much better than the old 4" screen

My apim is a 06/17 build.

I just installed it a few days ago.

Maybe find someone with the update already on a usb drive that is willing to send it to you. I don't know what the risk of bricking the apim would be tho if the files aren't compatible.

I don't either. I do have ForScan but not very good at using it. I know the update is available for my sync 3 2.3 version but because my truck didn't come with sync 3 out of the factory Ford won't make it available to me.

Do you have the vin of the donor truck that the apim came from? Might be able to 'take ownership' of that truck on their website if it was a wreaked one. I'm interested in this because I want to add sync 3 to my 13' f150.
