When I took my truck in last spring for the oil pan leak the dealer told me Ford said to replace the oil pan not to use the old one.

Plastic oil pans......Aluminum Beds.... These trucks are built really cheap and the quality is quickly falling off. I think the 2014 Trucks were a much nicer built truck overall.

I am on my third pan too (1 factory and 2 replacements). So far it looks all right. The shop foreman got involved and I can see the tech was a bit more heavy handed on the sealant this time around. Fingers crossed no more leaks.

one of many reasons i went with na 3.5 is the aluminum pan.

i have done a few oil changes on 2.7eb and every time i was thinking why did ford do this, and the drain plug OMG.

Most disasters waiting to happen..... Wait til the o-rings around the plastic drain plug start leaking. I mean that thing turns about 3/4 of a turn and that's it. and its not a requirement to change it out at any specified time.

I have SIX drain plugs for sale. Anyone wanna buy them?

Not a fan of the canister oil filters on top of the engine either.

I wonder if someone is going to come out with an after market metal oil pan? Right now you can't even use a Fumoto oil drain valve. Had it on my 2012 Eco and it made changing oil real easy......... They do not make one for the 2nd Gen Eco because of that stupid new drain plug!!!

So funny...there's love and disdain for the 2.7 on this forum. No leaks on my plastic oil pan or plastic drain plug. Still using the original plug with 38,xxx miles and at least 6 or 7 oil changes.

Guess I'm lucky with my 2015 XLT...no frozen locks or blacked out MFT screens either!

Add my 2017 3.5 eco engine to the list of oil pan leakers w/9000 miles. Changed my oil last weekend and noticed oil on the block/oil pan seam above the drain plug. Checked it yesterday and found it still leaking, not bad but leaking (a little oil makes a big mess). I need the truck for the next couple of weeks so I can't take it in to the dealer to fix it.
