Add factory door keypad

First post here, first time F150 owner! I bought a 2016 Crew Cab XL Sport 2.7. It doesn't have the keypad on the door but it came with the door code tag. I found the keypad for $40 on ebay or somewhere. Question is why would they give me the door code with the keys and it doesn't have the keypad? I'm wondering if I can just add it.

I searched and what I found is old discussions on pre 2015's saying don't add it, and some that say they added it but had to have the dealer turn it on in the computer.

I guess I can take the door panel off and see if the plug is there and for $40 it's not a big loss if it doesn't work. I would like to see if anyone has successfully added it though before going through the hassle.

When i bought my 2014 F150 XLT also came with a keypad code and no keypad. Ford sells a stick on keypad that works wirelessly like a keyfob. The batteries aren't changeable though, so when they die you have to buy a whole new keypad.

I was thinking they just give keycodes to everyone. Just wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming. I saw the wireless one and it sure would be easier than adding the hardwired one. Do you have the same options with the wireless one like you do with the wired one? Like enter the code and press 3-4 or 5-6 to unlock all doors or press 7-8, 9-0 to lock all doors?

Search the forum, there was a thread in the '15+ section on adding the keypad but I didn't read it.

I saw a thread about it here too. But it was a dead end thread. The OP didn't follow up and this was the last reply from the OP. "I could not get it to program in. I'm trying to see if I need to bring it to the dealer or not to have it programmed.?" https://www.f150forum.com/f118/has-a...150-xl-339986/ It was an older discussion so I started a new one.

Maybe ask Livnitup to see if FORSCAN could program it.

I sent a PM to Livnitup. Thanks.

I did find this on page 297 of the FORSCAN thread;

Hi Forscan gurus,

possible to use Forscan and marry wireless keypad to truck (like programming an FOB key) and avoid trip to dealer?

If not, I have listed a ScanTool MX OBD-II for sale in the forums parts post

No way to do it with FORScan but the following procedure doesn't work for you?

From driver’s seat:
Fasten front seat belts, place shifter in PARK and arrange to operate the 2 integrated key transmitters (IKT) that came with vehicle and the Remote Keypad to be programmed.
Unlock doors with one of the key transmitters
Insert a transmitter key in ignition and quickly (within 6 seconds) cycle ignition switch from OFF to RUN 8 times ending in OFF position.
Press door lock button on each of the two key transmitters in succession.
Then, press the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons on the Remote Keypad simultaneously for 2 seconds.

Button lights will go out on remote keypad 10 seconds after the last operation.
Test remote unlocking operation of IKTs by pushing the unlock button and the remote keypad using the 5-digit factory code.
Test locking operation by pressing 7/8 + 9/0 keys on keypad simultaneously.

Program personal 5-digit code into remote keypad as follows:
Enter 5-digit factory code (9/0 button will flash once to indicate programming mode)
Enter 5-digit personal code. (9/0/ will flash twice to confirm code is accepted)
Remote Keypad will now operate with either the factory code or the personal code.

That is for the wireless one, not the wired one. But thanks for finding that, it helps if I do go with the wireless one.

Since you're not concerned about the $40, get it and see if the procedure will work for it. If not there is always the dealer.
