I actually just found it, but it didn't have the information I was looking for. Do you know if there's a similar document that outlines the collision detection system the same way?

This might help too:

Edit: crap. Too big to upload to the forum, over by 2 mb. PM me an email address and I can send you the section from the FSM on the collision warning system if you want it.

You mean the upload? If so, nope. Emailed it to him. Wasn't about adaptive cruise anyways, although related.

For IDS, just take it to the dealer. Worst they will probably charge is 1.0 hr, which will be cheaper than any version of IDS you will find. Real or cloned....

I asked both dealers in town, and neither will touch the calibration. One wouldn't put the system on the truck (as in -- hey, I want adaptive cruise, can you do that?) much less touch the calibration, and the other said they would try, but I would pay hourly and no guarantees.

While I'm sure there's a dealer somewhere that will do this -- I would be surprised if they would take on the liability. The service manager I discussed this with told me some things they do, but with a system like that there's too much liability when the truck didn't come that way.

Caveat emptor -- don't assume any old dealer will just run the calibration you need. Expect them to refuse.

Time to find an independent shop who has a licensed IDS.

Default The calibration is easy

This is not complicated and why a dealer says no is beyond me. Drive over 30mph, straight for 5-15 minutes and the system calibrates. No user parms to enter. Dealer likely clueless what all is required.

Took me 15 mins to calibrate.

Didn't even take my truck 5 mins.

Agreed on dealer Serv dept being clueless. Literally no liability for them to worry about.

Great White - I was referring to the total time to connect the IDS, get into the program, drive, test the cruise, and shut everything down. This is the shop time a dealer would charge. The actual driving was like 3 miles which is just a few minutes. Book says it can take up to 15.

Its not like this is an arduous process here. If your truck is wrecked and a new radar unit is required what does the dealer do then - hide behind the liability excuse as the unit is not factory?

Amazing dealers just walk away from these kind of revenue opportunities. They just don't get what is actually required and it's easy to make it complicated and say no.

Glad we have forums like this.
