Does anyone know how I would do this on a non-Sony Lariat?

Take it to the dealer and get ready to explain when they look at you crazy

I joined this forum today to personally thank the OP and other posters here that contributed. I had just put in an upgrade at the local stereo shop and was horrified that every time I hit the gas it sounded like a dragster in my truck. After 10mins of shock I hit the forums for two + hours and found this thread and studied it. Figured out I have a non Sony system (501a) and that I'd be at the mercy of the service department. So armed with screen shots and courage it took about 9 hours to convince them to try it and about 30mins for the tech to actually figure it out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Had my Lariat in today for the 5-4 rough downshift TSB. Went to the back and saw my truck with the tech. Watched him finish the TSB flash and asked about disabling the Engine Noise Enhancement. I had the service guy attach the screen shot of the IDS showing how to do this (from this forum), to the work order. The tech said sure and 1 minute later it was disabled. No charge as the TSB performed required the IDS hookup anyways. First thing I noticed was how much quieter my aftermarket exhaust was. Until I had this ENE disabled I was considering going back to factory stock exhaust, not now.

By the way the trans shifts smoothly up and down also.

Love my Ford!

It would be nice if the enhanced engine sound only came on when you selected "Sport" mode on the gearshift. That way you could have your silent sanctuary when you were just cruising, and a little extra attitude when you are feeling sporty. That's how my wife's Audi S4 handles it, and it's effective.

Shoot guys I love my fake engine sound. I wish I could turn it up!

And add in a little extra turbo whine too!

I agree. People are scrapping their perfectly good stock exhaust systems and spending over $700 to get something that doesn't sound nearly as good as the free fake sound lol I like how it sounds inside and that it's quiet outside for when I drive anywhere, especially in the early morning hours going into my hunting stands.

Is it just "fake engine noise with a V8 tone" or it also has noise reduction feature that also reduce other unwanted cabin/road/harsh turbo noise?

I mean, if you disable it, do you also disable other noise cancellation function?

I just got mine disabled today by dealer, it is definitely quieter but I also hear other noises more, I am not sure if it is due to a quieter speaker allow me to hear other noise better or I am missing a noise cancellation feature that was bundled with the "fake engine noise"

Also, for those who experienced unusual hissing sound after audio upgrade, did you notice that after amplifier upgrade or just speaker upgrade?

Much help appreciated
