5.0 vs Hemi
#81
Thread says 5.0 vs hemi, not sure why ecoboosts is now involved but interesting stories and good reads. I Tried both 5.0 and 3.5 before ordering the 5.0 with 3.73. That ecoboost felt faster but at WOT at higher RPMs it kinda felt off beat or boring. The low rpm torque is so strong that you are litteraly disappointed as the rpms rise. The 5.0 is the complete opposite and from my experience the hemi is closer to the 5.0 feeling wise and pretty much even with a 5.0 3.73 speed wise. That eco is a beast but its not for everyone, traditionalist will prefer the free reving V8s, and I enjoyed the 5.0 as much as the hemi I tried. We are being picky between all top tier engines, eco has the torque but lacks that feel good rpm rush, said another way, the 5.0 has that fun rpm rush but lacks the strong pulling torque.... this is the powertrain options we didnt have back when I bought my 2004 with the lackluster 5.4 4speed.

I drove both the 2015 Hemi 8 spd 4 door 4x4 & the 2015 SCrew 5.0 4x4 the same day. I know the Hemi had the tow package but I'm not sure which rear that gives it and the 5.0 had the tow package with 3.55s. The dealerships are literally down the street from each other and have the same exact 'test drive' route.
The Ford felt faster and nimbler, but this could just be because of the weight difference between the two trucks and not have any real bearing on the actual numbers they would lay down at the track.

I also drove the 8 speed Hemi, and yes I would say that the F-150 did feel more nimble. I also attributed it the overall weight loss. The Ford steering is also on the light side (too light) so also adds to the sensation.

I can't speak for the 2015's but my work truck is a 2012 F-150, 5.0, 3.55, Scab. My personal Ram 2009, Hemi, 3.55, CC.
My son and I went toe to toe to test them, every time the Hemi easily walked away from the Ford. We even switched drivers.
Both trucks were completely stock.

And then how that compares to the 8 speed Hemi is also different.

I'm going to test and tune in a couple of weeks with my buddy who has a 2015 with the 8 speed tranny and 3:21 gears. It's bone stock like mine. We shall see!!!

Actually it's not relevant at all. Different generations of engines, different transmissions, the 2013 + Hemis don't have 3.55 rear ends, the new 5.0 has been updated, Ford went to Aluminm for 2015 (lighter truck), and the list goes on...
