5.0 vs 3.5 Reliability

I have a '16 5.0 and really like it. Great engine IMO.
Having said that and based soley on the latest 5.0 issues posted on this forum, they seem to have issues like abnormal oil usage and various noises.
If i were in the market for a new '19 F150 i myself would begrudgingly pass on the 5.0.
Sure seems like Ford took a good reliable V8 NA'd engine and made a turd out of it. But maybe that was their intention.

It seems to me that when designing all the F150 engines, the design parameters for longevity would have been the same. So, I expect all the newer engines are similarly reliable.
Having said that, I’m just stoked that someone thought to post a new EB vs V8 thread.
The handle of Corporal Punishment is particularly clever for a first time poster to create such a thread.
I’ll swing back in here tomorrow night to see how it’s going.

I'll tell you what, the latest crop of 5.0's of which some here are reporting abnormal amounts of oil usage for a starter.
No telling what all the latest 5.0 engine noise complaints are all about...a potential part failure resulting in a call for the hook?
Any abnormal mechanical noise in an engine could be a red flag for potential decreased reliability if not addressed and fixed ASAP.

I went for the 2.7. It has decent towing and is a really advanced engine. I hate to admit it but I wanted a 5.0. I was set on the v8, the displacement and the sound but after seeing the price, the lower mpg and not being impressed with the exhaust note (dont hate me), I settled with the 2.7. It has plenty of power and drives almost like a diesel. I kinda gave up on the exhaust note, maybe Im just getting old lol

The best advice is to go to your friendly dealer and drive both eco motors and the 5.0. No one here can really explain the difference in the way these engines feel when driving them. For me it was easy because I tow quite a lot and the 3.5 was the best imo for towing my flatbed and dump trailers. I had a 2012 3.5 eco with zero issues during the 5 years I owned it. The Gen II has a lot of improvements with the exception of the craplastic oil pan.
Don't believe you can really make a bad choice with Fords engine options..............

when is oil consumption and rattles deem an engine unreliable? i also swore i saw John post his 3.5 had a rattle as well .. FYI my 5.0 doesn't have oil consumption issues and a little off the throttle rattle isn't what i would consider unreliable .. i've seen more ecoboost total engine failures on this forum than 5.0's .. the difference is the 5.0 owners couldn't care less and don't feel the need to post it in every thread
Seems you're pretty quick to jump on anyone who raises concerns or who voices their displeasure with the engine rattle noise...
Metal on metal rattling sounds in an engine is NEVER a good thing and is ALWAYS cause for concern.
I post my engine experiences in every thread I deem appropriate! And if it helps one potential buyer then I consider it to be justified!
If you don't like the posts...you can always hit the back button!

Good for you! I've seen your posts in a number of threads playing the fanboy and denouncing owners with concerns with regard to their engines as nonsensical.

So poorly designed timing systems and bad cylinder liners are the cost of progress? False. Fords aren't less reliable because of technology. They are less reliable because Ford engineers and builds them.
