I like both the Eco motors, too. I went with the 5.0 ultimately because the truck I wanted had one, although I wasn't mad about it. I wanted one, mainly because I'm old school, and love the sound.
Now that I've had the truck a few months,I LIKE it that I have to get in the pedal a little bit to move quicker, I LIKE that it gives me more opportunities to hear that motor.
I say buy what makes you happy, it's great that we have the choices we have.

SO, my next truck wont have either an EB or a 5.0. After hearing an F250 6.2 start up I was like, oh that is so sweet. So a 7.3 will be in my next truck.

These trucks aren’t really performance vehicles, due to weight and aero, though either engine can be modified to be pretty fast.
I didn’t buy mine to be street king. But, the 470 lb/ft of torque the 3.5 makes is very usuable in real world driving, IMO. Passing on the highway always makes me laugh, it literally leaps and I have to reign it in. There is a minuscule amount of turbo lag on the street, but even in street driving at lower rpm, it’s a blast.
If you like high rpm, and the v8 sound, get the 5.0. For me, in my truck, it’s more important to have huge torque than high HP. And, if I ever tune, the power increase is unreal.
As far as reliability, who knows. Luck of the draw. 1800 miles on mine, it’s very quiet, zero issues and I just changed the oil (I picked M1 5w30 EP, which is group IV. VERY important to use a group IV oil in any turbo engine, since the turbos run very hot and are hard on oil). BTW, I’m getting around 23 mpg driving 75 mph, highway miles.
