5.0 V8 engine verses the 3.5 eco boost?

Looking to purchase a New 2015 F150 can,t decide between the 5.0 engine or the 3.5 eco boost.I am kind of old school so leaning towards the 5.0.Is the 3.5 eco boost that much better for towing 11,000 lbs verses the 5.0?How are the real world gas mileage numbers between the two?How about the 3.73 gears verses the 3.55?Thanks :)

This seems like a good topic, I'm surprised it hasn't come up...

Max Tow package includes the 3.5L Ecoboost. If you need that type of tow rating, you may not have a choice wrt engine.

Interestingly, the tow and max tow packages include the 3.55 gear.

3.73 comes with max payload package, and can probably be ordered separately. It would likely hurt your mpg, so that's why the 3.55 is so common.

EcoBoost, imnsho, does nothing to improve gas mileage, unless you do a lot of highway driving, and can stay out of the turbos ( keep it under 68mph). Otherwise, the 5.0 gets about the same, or even better mpg in mixed driving (per all the polls people have put here). As they say, your mileage may vary.

I have a 5.0 with 3.73 gears. Driving on some hilly back roads with a few lights for 35 miles and a 55 MPH speed limit for my commute, I average 19.8 MPG. It was 19.3 before adding my tonneau cover. I haven't done any towing yet.

I know they ecos have been around for several years now and have gone through some extensive testing. It was just a personal preference for me to get the 5.0 over the turbo options. I am sure the ecos are much funner to drive if you have a heavy foot.

Here are the towing specs, pick you cab, wheelbase, gear, 4x4 or 4x2 and you have your answers. Be sure to check the payload tab as well.

Go drive them both... then buy the 2.7. I just saved you more reading than you ever wanted to do.
