5.0 Phaser failures

I've seen several 5.0 Phaser failures lately. First was Bank 2 Exhaust Phaser. Set P0016 for B2 Exhaust cam over retarded. This was probably a month ago. It was under warranty with 30k ish miles. No I have another 2015 Lariat 5.0 with a P0012 for the Bank 1 intake Phaser over retarded. This one has 73k on it. Hopefully this isn't a trend. This one isn't under warranty and right fully so the owner isn't happy about the repair cost. I can actually watch it jump with IDS from -5 degrees to -55-60 degrees. That's 50 degree difference between PCM desired and actual angle!! Ordered parts Thursday and then he decided to replace all four. I suggested atleast one Bank. So I'm waiting on more coyote parts....https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...884818556b.png

SSM 46450 - 2017 Multiple Vehicles - Illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) With Variable Cam Timing (VCT) DTCs - Diagnostic Information

Some vehicles may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0011, P0012, P0014, P0015, P0016, P0017, P0018, P0019, P0021, P0022, P0024 and/or P0025. This may be due to small debris causing the VCT solenoid to stick. Before attempting any component diagnosis or replacement of the VCT solenoid, refer to Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test HK11 to cycle the affected VCT solenoid 10 times to attempt to clear the debris.

You're only human. Your contributions FAR outweigh this minor inadvertence.

This actually applies to any VCT solenoid equipped engine. I performed this on several engines. It only ever fixed one. That one was a 1.5 Ecoboost in a brand new Fusion. The first one I saw do this Ford was asked for their suggestions after the pinpoint test results. Ford indicated to only replace the solenoid. No dice since the problem still existed. Phaser timing was still over 5 degrees actual over desired by PCM. It takes 6 degrees to set the code, as seen by the camshaft to crankshaft correlation. Asked them for their thoughts again. They said replace it all. Which is why I have done so on the other two I've seen now. Especially on a cash job the dealership has to guarantee, not FOMOCO.

seen 2 5.0's that have a plugged oil passage to the vct system due to the small stamped piece from the oil hole in the headgasket getting stuck and blocking oil flow. last one i did had 5000 miles on it

Not directly related to this thread but I was thinking someone here might know the following:

Book hours to install 4 new cams
Actual hours to install 4 new cams
Cost to install 4 new cams
