5.0 with flowmaster 50 big block muffler
Anyone have 5.0 with the flowmaster 50 series big block muffler? Want something that sounds slightly louder and better than stock, but not loud at all and no drown. Looking at either the 50 big block or the 70 series.

I’ve installed hundreds of Flowmaster and other “performance” mufflers. In fact, I welded a 40 series into a dual out Ram with a 5.7L today. Disclaimer: I prefer that my vehicle are as quiet as possible. As for your question, in cab drown sound is subjective and what is none to some might be enough to annoy others. Here is how I would rank Flowmasters. If stock is a 1 and straight pipe is a 10. I would put a 40 series at an 8-8.5. A 50 series at a 6. A 70 series at a 3-4. I rarely get requests for a 70 as most people that are looking for sound want more than they provide. (This makes them perfect to quiet down a truck with headers and no converters.) If you were my customer in my shop I would be suggesting a 50 series. You’ll get plenty of sound with minimal cab drown noise. (Notice I didn’t say none!) |
I removed my stock muffler and installed a Series 50 Delta Flow and I couldn't be happier.

I bought a stainless system for my 2018 5.0 off Ebay. It came with a 40 Series Flowmaster. Looked WAY to small for me. I bought a 70 series After installation I felt it was louder than I liked even with the pipes out the back. I added an auger from Summit, we use them in dirt track racing, in front of the muffler.. helped a lot. After a week or so I added another smaller device right in front of the stainless tips and that made it perfect from me.
I did not like the clamps that came with the kit and bought 2 bolt stepped ones from Summit also. With the longer muffler the front of the muffler hanger was also not used but I think it could be with a little work. I put the kit on in a little over 2 hours and needed to move some lines on the left rear near the spare tire up a little and held there with a zip-ty. All of it cost me under $450 and was well worth it. $1000-1500 is not in my budget. The front auger had to welded in (ez for us we have a mig) and the rear ones with 2 pop riviets.. Hopes this helps. |
I had installed a Force II catback on my last one. Sounded good on a cold start and when you got on it but it was pretty quiet otherwise. I did not notice any cabin noise over stock. I like the full kits myself because I am OCD and the muffler shop welds never look that great to me... |
I had the flowmaster on my last F150 and didn't like it personally. Quality wasn't as good as some of the other brands out there.

I had flowmaster american thunder classics on my '07 mustang GT. what series would those be? oh what a sound a full throttle in that car. so many performance mufflers sounds like a boat at idle or have to much wrap on decel. The american thunder classics had the sound perfect.
