5100's are just a better overall shock. They can handle a heavier tire easier, they're height adjustable (Off the truck of course), and they provide a good planted non floaty feel that some may perceive as harsh. The stock shocks are marginal at best. Very floaty and allow for a lot of body roll. One thing you would notice with 5100's is reduced body roll. I had 5100's on my 2011 and they were night and day better than the stock shocks.
