4x2 to 4x4 Height

Default 4x2 to 4x4 Height

About to get a 4x2 F150. I know I need to add the rear block under the axle to get the rear height of a 4x4, but what about the front end? Will I have to buy the whole strut assembly? Or just a taller spring? Also, are there many here that would do a potential swap from a 4x4 height to 2wd? Thanks!

Buy a leveling kit for the front to raise it as high as you want. 2wd should be able to go up to 2.5, maybe even 3" higher.

Trading springs isn't going to to work, you have to take into account the extra weight of the front differential axles driveshaft and transfer case. Yours would be too high and too much spring rate and theirs would be too low with not enough spring rate.

Just do a moderate leveling kit and some blocks in the back. With a 2wd you don't have to worry about CV angle. So as long as you don't go far enough to bind the ball joint or have the spring hit the control arm it will work fine for you. 2" all around should get you where you want to be with no adverse effects.

Why does it need to be raised if it isn't going to see conditions requiring 4x4?

He's contemplating a swap from 2wd to 4wd. That'll cost him a lot more than $3k.

So just get the 4wd if he's thinking he's going to want to convert from 2wd to 4wd in the future.

Just going for height not anything else.

I want to keep it all OEM if possible. Was hoping to just buy a 4x4 front struts with springs and everything for a easy swap.

Would I need a alignment after doing this?

Honestly, you could only regret not getting a 4x4 model. Given the time you'll likely have this truck, that regret will come. The 4x4 swap will be incredibly expensive to the point where it won't even really be an option.
$3000 is very little in the long run, especially for a feature that's absolutely fundamental to what this vehicle is.
