Default BFG KO2 - Impact to MPG

Can any one give me a real world example of the impact going from factory tires to the same size BFG had on their fuel mileage? Everything I have seen on this seems to be increasing tire size and or going larger and or leveling the truck.

Thanks

Should be a wash... tire weight would be the only factor.

FOR ME:

Stock (20") set up, averaged right close to 18mpg. Normal/average driving.

Fuel Mavs @ 20x9 w/285-65-20 BFG KO2's dropped mpg noticeably. Averaging at 16.5mpg. Average/normal driving.

Having the same size BFG's as the stock tire would bring the mpg hit much closer. The 285-65-20 is much heavier than the
275-55-20 stockers.

went with 33s and it dropped about 5% hwy, 10% city and throws rocks like a bitch. But I still love the look.

I cannot give you a real world example, since I run a different tire.

However, off the top of my head, if you're running identical cold inflation pressures to your previous tire, the impact might result in 0.25 - 0.5 MPG... if that. Perhaps less. I am near-certain the BFG will weigh more per tire than your OE tire, and have perhaps slightly more rolling resistance. Those two things should be your only concerns, again, if you run an identical size replacement tire.

I lost 1/2 mpg going from stock wranglers to the bfg's on an 18" wheel.

Thanks Gerrard. I was surprised the weight difference is nearly 20 lbs per tire for the 18", glad to hear this will not be a gas mileage killer.

If you currently have all season tires then I'd say a drop of 2 mpg should be about right. If you have at tires currently, it would be 1 mpg or less.

I went from factory 275/65/18's to 35x12.5x17's and only lost 2 MPG. I'd suspect it'll almost be a wash for you, MAYBE 1/2 MPG worse. Either way, worth it!
