Default 36 Gallon Tank - How Low to Empty

How low have you run your 36 gallon tank without running out of fuel? When my gauge reads empty it takes about 31 gallons to fill. Just wondering if I can use another 3 or so without fuel starvation.

I was always told the fuel pump last long if tank is not run too low. Fuel cools the pump?

I got mine down to something like 58 miles to empty.

It only took 32 gallons to fill it up, which is like 4 gallons at 15 mpg (when I've been getting 17mpg).

Would I prefer an actual fuel gauge showing how many ACTUAL gallons it has left? Probably.

Does the DTE calculation work? Yes.

Correct, Ford uses in-tank pumps that are cooled by the fuel. If they're run dry they burn up.

But it's also been pretty established on here that the fuel tanks have ridiculous reserve capacity due to the design. Several gallons at least remain even when the sender reads zero.

There has been at least one report of someone being unable to start their truck due to parking it nose-down on an incline. The fuel pump pickup is at the rear of the tank, so even if you have five gallons or more in the tank, it's possible to be "empty."

Just drive it until you run out and then you'll know.

It's at the front of the tank (middle of the front half) but I'm not exactly sure where the fuel siphon is positioned.

I heard it was people who parked nose-up. *shrug*

I've gone 10 miles past DTE before few times before and put in about 35 gallons when filled up.

You're probably right. I dis-remembered the details...
