I've got the 36 gallon and for the life of me I just don't understand why it's even optional. all the trucks should have just come with 36 gallon tank.

the only 'argument' I've seen is some people might not want the extra weight of 36 gallons of fuel. which seems dumb to me, and then if that is your problem just don't fill your 36 gallon tank up completely.

I agree. I went from a '14 with a 36 gal and got into a 16 with 23 gal. I do miss the 36 gal sometimes but it hasn't been a huge deal for me. It was an oversight on my behalf i didn't know it was an add on feature I assumed 36 gal was standard. Can't complain too much the 16 is a great improvement.

For $440 extra profit. (It lists for $445 and I'm assuming the true cost is $5)

It cost me between $6-700 to do the swap with all new parts.

I am doing the conversion right now. I got a 36 gallon tank and the heat shield out of a junk yard for $280.00 and got the fuel pump and sending unit for $110.00 shipped to my shop. The pump arrives on Wed and will install it on Thursday.

Thank the EPA. Leaving out 100 pounds of gas cuts the curb weight by about 2% which is worth in the order of 0.1-0.15 mpg for CAFE compliance.

I bought a leftover 15 after the 16s came out and had a really tough time finding the 36 gallon tank on a truck set up the way that I wanted. Literally 90% of the XLT window stickers that I went through had the 23 gallon tank. I don't know whether that's dealers leaving off a $400 option because buyers don't care or buyers do care so the small tanks were all that were left but any case it was a frustrating shopping experience.

Strange, I didn't even think this was an "extra", my xlt was plain Jane 300a with no factory extras on the stickers and it has the 36 gallon tank...is it a standard thing in canada possibly?
