Default 36 Gal gas tank won't go pass 3/4 of tank when filling up.

I just bought the truck last month and the dealer filled it up to full when I picked up the truck, but when I used the gas up on the first fill up. I was unable to fill it up to the full mark. This current fill up I had about 19 miles left, I stopped to get fuel and it stops at 23.4 gal. So i figure it might be a limit to how much gas you can get so I go to another gas station and I couldn't put any more fuel in the tank. ANYONE KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? I'm suppose to have the 36 gal tank

I think the only explanation is that you don't have the 36 gallon tank. Check out a vin decoder. Do you still have your window sticker? It would also be listed on there. Use http://www.mikemurphyford.com/window-sticker-search/

Are you sure you have the 36 gallon tank? I believe the standard tank size is 23 gallons.

I'm thinking the same thing.

I don't think your truck has the 36 gallon extended range tank. Did you buy it used?

I bought it used and it was advertised as 36. OK let's just say it doesn't have the 36 gal tank. Why won't it go pass 3/4 of the tank then and won't let me fill up anymore?

You need to pull up your window sticker using the vin#.

You most likely do not have the 36 gal. tank. Doesn't matter what your gauge says it's how much gas it will take. When it's full it's full.

Truck's electronically programmed for a 36 gallon tank while it only physically has the small tank. It would make sense to assume that it's a programming thing, similar to the tires when you change size.

Anyways, no matter what the outcome it, bring it back to the dealership and let them figure it out. No matter what the fuel gauge says, the fuel pump will always win since it shows you the quantity of fuel that went into the tank.

I'm thinking there is a sending unit/gauge issue.

Could also be this, especially is OP said gauge was up to full when he picked up the truck...
