3.5L V6 FFV vs 2.7L V6 Ecoboost
About to pull trigger on a 2017 and trying to decide if it's worth the extra money to upgrade the engine to the 2.7, over the standard 3.5 FFV.
I don't do any towing and the load is always light (empty 90% of the time). From what I read, the gas mileage improvements aren't huge, and I only drive 10k per year, so that alone doesn't make it worth it.
So what would matter to me that would make it worth the upgrade would be drive. For example, if the 3.5 has weak pickup from a stop light and the 2.7 is strong, that would do it. Or if driving the 3.5 feels like it's dragging and under-powered, but the 2.7 felt like it had power to spare, that would make it worth it. If
If the differences are negligible though, I wouldn't pay the extra money. What's your thoughts? With those being my concerns, is the engine upgrade worth the money or would I see no difference between the two?
(of course if one is known to be unreliable, that would be a concern too)
Thanks

You're literally comparing probably the slowest engine available in a half-ton truck with quite possibly the absolute fastest one available. Yes, the 2.7 is night and day compared with the base, NA V6.

Go 2.7 all the way. Better mpg, TONS of power!!

The best advice you will get is to go test drive both engines. When you do, make sure both trucks have the same axle ratio and are reasonably the same weight (cab/bed configurations, similar option lists, 2WD v 4WD).

You'll never look back with choosing the 2.7 @$795...it's a bargain that offers unique driving experiences. If you're a DIY oil changer, what used to be a chore will become a pleasure with an easy to remove (by hand) drain plug and an up front-on top canister filter (no drain mess).
