Default 3.5 Wastegate rattle fixed!

To @justanengineer ...THANK YOU!!!
This really works!
Adding a spring from the wastegate linkage to an anchor point on the turbo, the light spring pressure keeps the linkage from chattering.
This is the Lowes spring and part number he posted.
I wanted to respond in his post, but cannot find it(I saved these pictures months ago, and finally got around to putting them on).
My 2019 3.5 went from sounding like junk to silent!
2 springs, $7.
Ford...clueless.
Awesome fix man, Thank You So Much!

Thumbs up Wastegate rattle fixed

Great fix,👍 this should also reduce internal wear associated with the rattle. Was able to order on line through Lowe’s. Hillman part number#543210 was used as shown in a Parts search

These springs do not fit for me. Too long. Spring length is 2 1/8" and total length is about 5".

I got hillman part #543183 which has a spring length of 2 3/8" and total length of 4". They fit, but not sure there's enough tension.

Not sure if there's different turbos on 19s or why the springs fit op's 19 but not mine.

Mine is a 2019 also, and I thought the springs I used were too long at first too, but I just found a lower place on the visible tube on the turbos to connect the other ends of the springs to.
I pulled and stretched the driver's side spring just a little bit as well.
But, so far so good, no more rattling.
I have a dealer appointment for the cam phaser reprogram recall on the 16th, as they are easier to hear now.
At almost 20k miles, the cam phasers will need replaced to quiet the noise, too long/too many dry starts.
I'll schedule that at some point after the reprogram.

Don't bother with the reprogram. If they're already rattling the reprogram won't fix them. Just have it done all at once.

I take it the picture you posted isn't of your springs? In that exact position the springs you recommend are an inch too long.

I just did this on my '17 3.5EB. it removed essentially all of the waste gate rattle.

I am hoping this does not affect how the waste gate actuates now that there is an additional external force on the lever arm.

I used part # 543183

I just picked up the springs today and was thinking the same thing as they are stiffer than I was anticipating. Can you tell any difference when driving (aside from the sound)?

Get the part # I provided. They are a lighter spring with a more appropriate length.

I need to try a diff Lowe’s. The one closest to me was out of that part number.

Did this last night, with spring 543183, and the rattle is gone. Frustrating part for me is that there is a TSB specifically addressing the linkage rattle on the wastegate actuator (TSB 20-2016). A few weeks back my truck was in for the PCM 21B10 rollback, and I had them look at an oil leak coming from my driver side valve cover and asked them to address the wastegate rattle. Lazy tech replaced a PVC connector and claimed that fixed the oil leak issue and that he verified the leak was fixed with dye and a black light, and also said my truck did not have wastegate rattle. My truck had to go back a week later to have the valve cover replaced (since that is where the leak was actually coming from, and he never used dye and a black light), and apparently he is deaf and/or didn't take the 2 secs to touch the wastegate linkage as it is apparent there is play and that is the source of the rattle. At least this spring fix is cheap and takes less than 5 min.
