Default 3.5 vs 2.7 observations

My 18’ 3.5 Platinum in in the shop for the seatbelt recall, bed alignment, and cam phasers (off throttle rattle). My loaner truck is a 18’ extended cab XLT with the 2.7. I think the only options it has is a backup camera and 4x4.

I miss all my creature comforts but overall the XLT is a nice truck. I think it’s quieter than my platinum. I’m not sure if the 2.7 in XLT trim has augmented engine noise but I think the lack of sunroof and tow mirrors make a big difference on noise (Not to say my platinum is loud). Power wise, I would have been happy with the 2.7 for everyday driving. Fuel economy is better too (expected). I’m driving my same daily commute and averaging over 20mpg vs my 17mpg on winter blend.
The brakes, or brake booster feels different in the 2.7. Not a bad thing, it just has more pedal travel and spongy feeling. Brakes stop the same.
Start / Stop is less noticeable on the 2.7 but the halogen lights dim during restart where my leds aren’t phased. Also, the 2.7 will restart the engine if you move the steering wheel. I wish my 3.5 would did this.

Just picked up a loaner 2.7 today and noticed the same thing about the brakes. My truck is a 2018 5.0 and the brakes seem much tighter and reactive. Hmm kind of weird

I think my 3.5 starts up when you turn the steering wheel too. I didn’t realize it did this until I tried to turn the steering wheel while I was stopped a few days ago.

Damn, both 2018's and both in the shop. It sucks but seems like more and more I see it lately..
I got into a lease 20017 crew cab 2.7 only because I had to get rid of my pos 2013 and the 2.7 was the cheapest lease, I have to say I've been very impressed with it to say the least.
This August it's time to return it and I'm supposed to buy a new f150 but not really feeling good about it with all the issues after issues I see my friends having and people on these forums with new trucks.

My 18’ Expedition is going in for the same cam phaser issue and some recalls. It’s been delayed getting in because the tech is tied up working on my F150. I’m hoping the expedition won’t be in the shop 10+ days like my truck. That said, yes, it sucks that brand new vehicles have issues that require repair but every manufacturer has some initial issues that occur in the first 12K miles. Finding a dealer that cares and addresses issues makes all the difference in the world.

Neither of my 18’ 3.5s will start if you turn the wheel. The wheel feels locked like it does when the ignition is off. I have seen posts where people recommended turning the wheel slightly to restart the engine. I’ve always just eased up on the brakes.

My 18 3.5EB does start the engine if I turn the steering wheel, I just figured they all did that.

No real issues here, just wanted to get the transmission TSB done, and after driving this 2019 with the newer trans update it is much better so I am looking forward to getting my truck back.

With that said, I am loving this 2.7 .. I am thinking this will be my next engine over the 5.0 honestly

What trim level? Does the wheel turn easy, like it would I the engine is running? I am curious if mine has an issue or if it’s different by trim level.
