so by "smoke" it, you mean it will have more power? That is how you define "smoke" it?

Didn't know this. Thank you.

when I said smoke it, I was using a comparison that you were making saying the 3.5 is faster than the 2.7. My point of view was that the 2.7 due to the larger turbos and updated design as well as many tests of both together. That in every day use the 2.7 was indeed faster. HOWEVER, for 2017 an additional 55 hp to the 3.5 with larger turbos and working on 0 lag will in fact make the 3.5 S M O K E!!! The 2.7 and there will no longer be a comparison with the 2 for any type of race. Day to day or otherwise. Better tow... Better 0-60 better 1/4 mile. In other words worth the money to upgrade to the 3.5 ecoboost. But at the same time not a thing wrong with the 2.7tt. Big brother just got a needed facelift.

If this doesn't seem like what you thought I meant I'm curious what you thought smoke it meant in the realm of racing.

I never said anything one way or the other. Just wondering if you can quantify "smoke" it. Is that a 1/8 mile time? 0 - 60?

I'm not too far from you and I also noticed not too many 3.5eco XLT sports or FX4's around. Plenty of 2.7 and 5.0 Lariats/XLT's though. I jumped on the first 3.5eoc XLT FX4 I saw at a local lot.

If payload matters, make sure you check the red & yellow payload sticker on all the trucks you test drive.

Not every 2.7L eco is 1300 payload.
Mine without payload package is at almost 1600 which is identical to my 2011 3.5 Eco I had before.

But a 3.5 Eco scab will be in the 2000# range. You can find a spreadsheet of examples in my signature. Feel free to add yours to the thread (also in my signature).

My 2011 Lariat Scab had a 1,406lb payload, and my 2015 Lariat Screw has 1,575lb payload.

All the Lariat 2.7s I looked at before buying mine were closer to 1,300lbs of payload.

I know the XLTs have higher payload, because the truck w/options is lighter than a Lariat w/options.

I looked at several Lariat 2.7s locally and couldn't find one with enough payload, so I went back to looking at the 3.5 eco.
