3.5 Ford Eco boost Vs dodge 3.5 eco diesel

looking for honest options for people who considered the dodge, I have had Fords for over 20 years and this is the first time I am considering the Dodge. We are moving south close to Galveston and will have to drive 70 miles one way to work which is why I am looking for decent mileage but still need towing capacity to tow a 27' Baja boat that is 8000 pounds I believe.
both vehicles will be 355 gears and ford 36 gallon and Dodge 32 gallon. how many miles do you typically get out of your ford 305 with 36 gallon. what have you towed with it and how did it go
if you tested both trucks why did you choose ford and not dodge.
Fords seems to be about 10K more expensive
but ford is offering higher discounts plus 0 % financing
I am trying to make a decision next week and just torn on what to do and not regret my decision

Do you want a truck made in México? If so, go for the RAM trucks.

The 3.5 EcoBoost will out-tow the RAM's you're considering. And 4 extra gallons of gas is handy.

For driving to work, the 3.5 EcoBoost will be better, just stay out of the boost (which is hard not to because it's addicting lol).

No one wants an Eco Weasel engine. If anything, the Titan XD with the 5.0 V8 Cummins would be better than the Eco Weasel and would be worth waiting for.

Who cares where it's made?

Besides that you need to check the payload capacity of the Ram. That's where they fall short. I believe you would struggle to be in limits towing an 8000 lb boat plus you, family, gear, etc.

You will get better mpgs Inn the RAM but diesel is more expensive around here than gas and the oil changes off the RAM are pricey.

The ecodiesel is a 3.0

Ya it's 3.0L, besides that though get the Ford. The RAM is a great truck and honestly for the average "lifestyle truck owner" the Ecodiesel is perfect. Towing that 8000lb boat is a different story. I'm sure it'll do the job, the Ford will just have a lot more grunt.

The ecodiesel will provide much better MPG than the 3.5 ecoboost.

I personally care where it's made. I'd much rather support the American working class.

It may get better mpg, but it doesn't mean it's better. It's still an Eco Weasel by Fiat junk.

The ecodiesel is not a good financial choice (despite what Ram and some overzealous publications and owners say). Assuming 17mpg avg for a hemi and 22mpg for the ecodiesel (both are the epa combined ratings for those motors in 4wd), with both diesel and gas at $3 a gallon, the payoff for the diesel takes a long time. How long? Over 140k miles long.

Only people who dont understand finance make the choice to buy an ecodiesel to "save money" on fuel......

calhoun687 09-28-2015 04:36 AM

To clarify a few things, not considering the Diesel to save money on gas, mostly due to not wanting to have to get gas 2 or 3 times a week like I do with my Raptor now. out of curiosity how many miles on a tank are people getting on the 3.5 Eco boost with 36 gallon tank.
