Default 2018 Back Seat middle headrest...

I am looking to replace my 2010 F-150 XLT. I am likely going to go with a 2018 XLT - it feels like quite an upgrade over the 2010!

I was hoping someone could help me out - I have three kids with the youngest about to grow out of a high back booster - the outboard seats have headrests that are quite tall, however the middle seat has the skinny little one (obviously to ensure good visibility out of the rear seat). Can someone confirm that headrest in fact can extend quite high, almost to the same height as the outboards? I want to ensure that my kids can safely ride in the middle seat without worrying about their heads impacting the rear glass in the case of an accident and that they won't outgrow that headrest in just a few years.

I was surprised to find that the 2018 and earlier GM trucks don't have middle head rests at all. I drove the new RAM and was impressed with the truck and all of the tech, however the middle headset is not adjustable meaning my kids would likely grow out of it quite quickly. It's always some little thing that causes me grief when looking for new vehicles - in the past it has been fitting carseats, now its headrests!! Seems like the headrests will keep me in the Ford family!

Thanks in advance!

Yes it comes up like 4 or 5". I did remove mine to unblock the center window.

I just checked, in its highest position it's about an inch lower than the outboard ones. Still not as big as the previous generation.

I ran into the same thing. Three kids, so GM was out from the get go. Ram used to have the adjustable middle headrest but as you have found out they changed that.

Really frustrating how no reviews or safety tests ever mention this. Or the fact that the F-150's front jump seat has had a shoulder belt and headrest since 2009, while GM had neither. I think the rear restraints are especially important in a pickup since their head is otherwise up against the rear window.

You guys are awesome! Yes, it is amazing how no one talks about this at all. I couldn't even find any forum posts about it or anything. Seems like a real safety issue for families with trucks.

At the end of the day I was having trouble deciding between a Ram and a Ford and I guess I have my answer now. I drove an XLT, Lariat, and sat in a Platinum. I was actually underwhelmed by the higher end trims and am likely going to go for a heavily loaded XLT and eventually add leather. The tech in the Ram limited was impressive which is perhaps why the F-150s underwhelmed me technology wise.
