1. If you haven't already done it, have a look at:

...and ask member toptobottom for a copy of his price negotiating spreadsheet. And have a look at the posts from #3051 onward regards it's use. Good stuff to have before talking turkey with the dealer.
2. On paper the new 3.3L PFDI engine looks fine for regular use. My personal preference - I'd always get some kind of tow package and would always get an e-locker differential to maximize your driveline capabilities, no matter what engine size or future tow plans you might have. And a 36 gal. tank is nice too - I believe (?) it's an option on the Scabs.

Yes the n/a v6 is a good engine. Ford has always (as far as I know) had good v6 engines and there is no reason to doubt the 3.3. So it will be fine for non towing/hauling. mpg wont be much diff than a 2.7 turbo...
Also consider resale value. Whether the 3.3 is good or not doesn't matter for resale value because most buyers will want an eco or the 5.0. So if resale is an issue, forego the 3.3. If you keep it a long time - resale isnt a biggie. I would recommend getting a 3.73 rear axle if possible to help that v6 move along.
Lastly, I have bought a new truck in a couple of years but a base ext cab 4x4 for that price seems high. You can often get a lower trim crew cab 4x4 for that price. Again for resale - the crew cab will best the ext cab... Generally one can negotiate up to 20-25% off msrp on the trucks so keep that in mind.

The 3.3 is from the same family as the 3.5 in the 2011 and up Edge, Flex, Fusion, etc. and the basis for the 3.5 EB. Good, well designed engine. With that said, you may want to consider the 2.7 EB, it should hold better resale, get really good gas mileage and be fun to drive. It can also haul for those few times when you may actually need the truck to be a truck.
