There was another article about that mule truck that also had a diesel exhaust tip, like the GM 2500s have. The venture style that has slots that take in air to reduce your coal rolling capability.

I don't think the venture style tip is to reduce your coal rolling capability. Pretty sure it's to help cool the exhaust leaving the tailpipe. Especially during regen.
