Default 2nd generation ecoboost observations and questions

I have about 300 miles on my second gen ecoboost. Really liking this truck. Floor it from a dig and the 10 speed shifts shifts smooth, nearly as good as a CVT. Power wise it feels like more than 365/470. My previous ecoboosts were all tuned and this one feels as good as they did tuned.
I hooked up my 9k fiver and took it for a short run and was impressed with the power. I am looking forward to my first camping trip.

So far I am noticing that city fuel economy is around 1-1.5 mpg better. I haven't did much hwy driving so I can't tell much there. Has anyone towed much with a heavy load? Did it get better fuel economy than your 1st gen ecoboost?

So we know that the 2nd gen has both port and direct injection and that port injection was added to keep the valves clean. Any other info on this? Does it run port injection when in a vacuum and then switch to DI when boost is required? Also what else was done to the engine with the new design? Is it the same block?
Also the Raptor has the same engine except different turbos and a different compression ratio? Any other differences?

Raptor has true dual exhaust if that matters. I'm not sure of any other differences, but not the expert on that sort of stuff

Should be same block on 2015 - 17 even with the update for the 3.5. Not sure on the difference the HO and non HO for the raptor question though.

Different turbos, and upgraded internals on the Raptor, obviously a different tune and I believe a different exhaust system. The block is a little different from the gen 1. Gen 2 is made from CGI (Compacted graphite iron) pretty cool stuff.

I'm pretty sure the gen II 3.5 does NOT have a CGI block.

Ford put a lot of information on the gen 2 either on youtube test drives and also printed test drive reports. The block is the same as gen 1 but all internals are "upgraded" i.e. piston, rods, crank, turbo's etc. Raptor's HO version also has different internals due to the even higher BMEP's due to higher boost. (according to what I've seen published)

The Raptors have the same turbo's as the reg 2nd gen, whats different are the lower compression pistons to allow for more boost(tuned accordingly) and a different exhaust manifold to handle the higher temps made from higher boost.

Found this from Ford so the turbos are different

Among the high-output EcoBoost performance enhancements for Raptor are more aggressive turbo compressors with increased boost calibrations, cast stainless steel manifolds and full dual exhaust, oil-cooled pistons and more aggressive engine control calibrations.

“Looking at the torque curve of the Raptor’s EcoBoost engine, you see the twin turbos spool quicker for faster time to torque – it hammers quick and keeps delivering torque for a more brawny feel than its V8 predecessor,” said Al Cockerill, Raptor’s powertrain development engineer.

Wow - there is a lot of incorrect info in this thread.

The link above gives a short written overview; however, it also contains a video interview with the lead engineer / designer on the new 3.5l and the 10spd.

Good information there.

In short, there are many, many, many changes that went into the next gen - as learned from data from both the 2.7l and the first gen 3.5l

Raptor has different turbos, different pistons - the nice thing is the 3.5l internals were all beefed up in anticipation of the high output version in the Raptor....so - if you have the regular tune (like me) - you have some insurance.

Yup, you're right. My bad.
