2019 Limited Sync3 Freezes Up / Subwoofer Upgrades
 
Hello, from the first day I picked up my truck about a month ago, the sync system freezes upon startup almost 3-4 times daily. I’ve called the helpline and they have given me the similiar to a CTRL-ALT-DELETE reboot sequence to get it to force a restart when it freezes. This works most of the time I’ve also tried doing a master reset as well with no luck has anyone else experienced this with your 2019 Sync3 system?

My dealer is about 75 miles or 120 kilometres from me and I still have about 2 months of driving before my first service is actually due before I can get it in.

Lastly, any space saving subwoofer recommendations? I need some storage space under my back seat but feel the need to add some more bass to the audio system.

Any other symptoms besides the freezing? Do you get a crossed out GPS symbol on your map? Will it hold a Bluetooth connection with your phone, does Carplay/AA work properly?

What is your Sync 3 V3.3 software Build #? Build 19052 is the latest

Sounds like another dying APIM. It'll start by seeming slow/laggy. Then BT will start dropping and reconnecting. After a while, you'll get the No GPS icon on the nav screen.

When you take it to the dealer, be aware that they will, by their own troubleshooting steps, be *required* to complete a master reset and firmware flash, then retest. Most give it back to the customer. My 2016 crapped out, and they did exactly that... made me drive about 60 miles round-trip to reproduce the issue in the service drive and make them take it back. So if you're a long way away, I would plan to pick it up early morning, identify if the issue is still occurring, then take it back same-day.

Btw, my 2018 just starting doing this crap :cursing:

My original failed at 40,000 miles, I've got about 30 on the replacement, I'm expecting it to crap the bed soon...

So what's the cause of that issue exactly? APIM? Is that a module, and where is it? Or does the entire dash unit need to be replaced? Just curious what's the exact fix for that. No issues yet on mine, but only 6,600 miles so far. Just to be aware of possible issues and fixes. Will check the version and build next time I use the truck. Thx.

Yeah, it's a module... Audio Processing Information Module or something close to that. It's the computer behind the infotainment system. I'm pretty sure it's in the dash, behind the touch screen. When the behavior starts, the fix is... new module. Out of warranty, the module is over $1K.

My F-150 2019 Limited was picked up Dec-2018 and has Sync Software is Version 3.3, Build 18266 working flawlessly so far, no lock-ups, freezing, rebooting or any other problem. Even Bluetooth is sharp enough that people on the other side of the call don't know I'm on BT. I intentionally removed automatic updates to avoid getting a buggy newer version. My suggestion would be to locate the previous 1 or 2 (older) versions and downgrade your latest Sync 3 to see if that fixes the issues. Mine is Build 18266, then came 18351 and maybe yours is the latest. Don't think you have much to lose and it can be done via download to a USB thumb drive, plug into the console USB port to see if that fixes the issues. Good Luck!

Hey Storman22, the Ford Ranger folks have a post where you can download the previous, older Build 18351 - link below with direct download. It's a large file “4U5T-14G381-AM.zip" 1.2 GB+ and a comprehensive SYNC update that may take a while to complete. Let me know if it works or if you found a fix.
