Question 2018 Towing Mirrors for XLT 8 pin

Hey guys,

Looking to upgrade my 2018 XLT mirrors to the towing ones. There are lots of aftermarket options out there but I don’t see that they include the ambient air temperature sensor inside the passenger towing mirror. Has anyone found an aftermarket pair that includes this sensor or can it be bypassed? I’ve found an OEM one that has it but it’s very expensive, see links below. Thanks for your help.

Does your truck have BLIS? Those mirrors do have the temp sensor, but are missing the BLIS feature. XLT’s never came with BLIS and tow mirrors combined for some reason.

I have a coworker with a 2018 and he has the same problem. Trying to find tow mirrors with the temp sensor and BLIS. From my research, he only has two options. Buy the spendy Lariat tow mirrors with all sorts of features, or do some re-wiring to swap his temp sensor inside an aftermarket mirror. I think at least one other member did that.

Im curious if the Super Duty mirrors would work in a half ton at all because they seem to offer the basic tow mirrors with a temp sensor and BLIS for a reasonable price.

Does anyone know if these mirrors would work on an F-150?

Just noticed you said you have 8 pin mirrors. I think that means you don’t have BLIS, but I’m not positive. If you don’t, then those mirrors you linked to should work. $700 for a complete pair is not all that spendy. It’s better than $700 each for the Lariat mirrors! Plus the OEM ones are better than aftermarket. I would consider those over aftermarket if I were you. I have the Trail Ridge tow mirrors on my truck. They are okay, but OEM is better.

I spent several days looking for tow mirrors for my XLT last year. I looked at after market a lot, but they always got spotty reviews. I finally found OEM mirrors in the fall of 2018. There are several places that sell them, many on line Ford dealers have them from $604 to $700. You just have to look around. I got mine from a dealer in Alabama: https://www.powerstrokeplus.com/oem-...or-jl3z17696ba. They were very good about answering my questions about what I was buying (since I live in California, returns were a problem). $604 for the mirrors, and about $35 for shipping. I very happy with the oem mirrors. Power adjust, heat, and temp sensor. BTW, if you go to the website I included, it shows something other than tow mirrors. The picture is wrong but the product number is correct. One of the reasons I contacted the dealer just to make sure I was getting tow mirrors and not just stock mirrors.

Thanks OP fro bringing this up as it is on my mod-radar as well
Question for those in the know-
I've seen in other threads and in the pictures linked above two 8 to 22 pin adapters that I assume comes with the mirrors. If these mirrors, JL3Z-17696-BA, are for 8 pin trucks (non- power extend nor BLIS), then what is the adapter for? Maybe a cheaper/less functional replacement option for Lariat level (22 pin) trucks?? (this assumes this mirror has 22 pin receptacle, and the adapter mates it with 8 pin XLT)

The JL3Z-17696-BA does come with the 8-pin to 22-pin adapter. The XLT has 8-pin mirrors and I would assume that the Lariat has 22-pin mirrors. The tow mirrors are equipped with turn signals, puddle lights and spot lights, the reason for the 22-pin connectors. What ever you have currently on your truck will work with the new tow mirrors. My '17 XLT had signal lights, power adjust, and heat and that is exactly what my tow mirrors have. I have read in a few cases those with XLT's have added the extra wiring and switchers for the other lights.

My XLT has 22pin mirrors (power glass, heat, signal, puddle lamp and spot light).

I think the 8pin mirrors don't have the spot light feature.

I am also wondering if I can use Super Duty tow mirrors on my 2016? I have factory tow mirrors, but my driver's side got hit. I found a pair of Super Duty mirrors, but they have all the bells and whistles. Can power extend mirrors be extended manually? My truck doesn't have the power extend button.

How many bolts does the Super Duty mirrors have? If I remember correctly the 150 mirrors have three bolts. It would be too easy if all the trucks shared a common mirror.

I found this info in another thread about the F250 mirrors. Supposedly they bolt right on which makes sense since they share the same cab. They do look a tiny bit different, but not a major difference. Pics in this thread.

Just heard back from a seller on ebay to confirm that it didn't have the sensor and it doesn't. I guess I'll just wait some time and hopefully soon these aftermarket ones might start to include them. Can one uninstall the sensor from the OEM mirror and attach to an aftermarket one?

Thanks
