2018 Supercab
 

Thinking about going the Supercab route for my next truck. My son is thinking of selling his 2016 XLT crew cab to generate some cash to put towards a new house, and I was contemplating giving him my 2012 Platinum and getting a new truck. I don't have to have a crew cab anymore, because my wife and I are empty nesters, but still want the 6.5 bed. Anyone here go this route from a crew cab to Supercab? If so, were you ok with the change. I realize they don't make Supercab Platinums , but a well equipped 502a Lariat would work for me.

We are empty nesters with a 2017 SuperCab and are going back to a SuperCrew. The SuperCab with 6.5' bed is an ideal size for our daily uses, the problem is I still have enough need for a full sized back seat (work, in-laws, when kids come home for weekends, etc) that I am returning to a SuperCrew. In addition, the reverse opening rear doors just don't work for me.

Crew cabs are the volume seller I think, so for resale it may be better? Crew+6.5 foot box is what you need! We are empty nesters and the back of my crew cab is filled with camping gear and other stuff.
I don't like the suicide-type doors either....or my brain doesnt like them lol...

I've had numerous crew cabs in the past and my last one was a 2016 F150 crewcab 6.5' bed platinum. 90% of the time it was just me in the truck and the other 10% is was me +1 so I decided to shrink down to a supercab. I still wanted the 6.5' bed. As I have gotten older my mentality has changed to "if I use it, by all means buy it but if I don't use it get reed of it". I just hardly ever used the crew cab for people. I threw some stuff in there once in a while, but I have a bed cover so I have all the concealed storage space I need. The one truck I kind of miss was my 2011 regular cab so I decided to split the difference and do a supercab. Suicide doors haven't bothered me yet. Those style doors give the truck a "truck" look. I always felt like the crew cab trucks look like a minivan and truck combined, but if you need the people space....you need it. Love the tighter turning radius and if I throw something on the back seat and need to reach back and get it I don't have to reach very far. I also left off 4WD and the higher trim stuff on this current truck (XLT 302A). I just didn't use 80% of it (heated steering wheel, memory seats, 4WD, rear heated seats, BLIS, max tow), 10% of it I didn't want (floor shifter, cooled seats with holes, moonroof, 20" rims with no sidewalls, adaptive cruise, etc) and the other 10% I do miss (pushbutton start, intelligent entry, 360 camera) but an extra $10k just wasn't worth it. I'm also enjoying the higher payload capacity. The 2016 had max tow and could tow 1200lbs, but my payload was 1400lbs. I'll go back to my previous setup if I'll use it, but I don't see that happening.

I prefer the size and functionality of the Super Cab and have had several in a row. I actually prefer the smaller interior and larger 6.5 bed.

However, I went with the Super Crew this go 'round for a couple of reasons.
First, there are not enough of the Super Cab models out there with the features, color, etc that I wanted. The dealer did not have a single Lariat in the Super Cab, like I was trading in.
Second, without the fixed B-pillar, the doors just never give me the feelings of confidence when the doors shut. They just rattle around too much and sound cheap when they shut. My last one would report that a door was ajar at random times as well.
Third, the Super Crew seems to ride smoother and quieter.

I also prefer a Supercab over the Crew Cab. If you do need to haul 5 or 6 people, you still can but not for very far I would hope. I'm a empty nester also.

Thanks . Should have mentioned to all we do have a 2nd vehicle (wifes)which comfortably carries 5 adults, just hate driving a lower vehicle after driving pick up trucks all these years. I am willing to bet I haven't parked my ass in the driver seat of her car more than 3 times.

I don't have personal experience, but I can share that my in laws bought a CRV specifically because they wanted to have a full four door vehicle for carting around grandkids (ie, my kids). Previously they were driving a dodge Dakota extended cab, which admittedly is smaller than an F150... still didn't make the cut.

We have two car seats in the back of my Supercab now, as I am picking up the two grandsons (2 and 6) on the way home from work Friday. There is more than enough room for them while still leaving the front seats far enough back for our comfort. I also prefer the 6.5' bed for hauling, but also just like the look of the Supercab better.
